Whatever happened to The Sims 4‘s mood cheats?
Like most modern computer games, when building content for The Sims 4 programmers will add a number of cheats to make their work easier. Oftentimes these cheats will allow developers to skip more tedious gameplay elements, so they can jump in and work on what they need to work on without having to focus on things like keeping a sim’s needs up, for example. There are also lots of cheats for allowing testers to do things that a player normally can’t, such as editing a community lot in Live mode.
Many of these cheats are left in The Sims 4 for players to use if they want to manipulate their games outside of the typical parameters. You probably use some of them every time you play without even thinking about it, such as the wildly popular MoveObjects cheat.
Unfortunately, though, the developers can giveth and they can taketh away. Occasionally a cheat might be removed from the game or disabled for player use, which can be quite the bummer if it’s one you’re used to using often. Mood cheats are sadly among those that have been removed, and there is currently no way to reinstate them. Fortunately, we have other options, though!

If you’re an avid mod user, you’re likely familiar with the AllCheats mod by TwistedMexi. While this mod re-enables many older cheats, in testing it did not work with mood cheats.
The Alternative: In-Game Methods
Even though these mood cheats are no longer working, there’s no need to despair. We can change our sim’s mood in other ways and they really don’t take that much work or time.
Come On, Get Happy!
If you’re not after a specific mood and just want to make your sim stop being grumpy or sad, you have the power to cheer them up in a few clicks! You’ll need to activate TestingCheats for this to work, but it’s incredibly simple.
All you have to do is hold the Shift key down while clicking on your sim, and select Cheat Need→Make Happy. Your sim will immediately get a Happy buff and all their needs will be filled. This is a great little trick if you don’t have the time to get all their needs up before work or a social event, or if they’re just really cranky.
To Shift+click on console, hold 〇 and press X for Playstation or hold B and press A on Xbox.
Drink, Blow, or Sniff Away Your Woes
If you’re after a specific mood there are multiple items in the game you can use to change how your sim is feeling. I would recommend removing any buffs your sim may have beforehand so there’s nothing to override these mood changers.
- Tea Magic Personal Brewer (BG) This appliance lets your sim brew a cup of tea, the flavor of which will affect how they’re feeling.
- Bubbletron 500 or Bubble Machina (CL) Blowing bubbles can affect your mood, though this one is a little riskier because there are good AND bad outcomes. I would skip this one if you’re desperate to get your sim feeling a certain way, but it is an option.
- Scent-from-Heaven Incense Holder or Spring Blossom Incense Blower (SD) This is my preferred method of changing a sim’s mood because all they have to do is light it and be nearby for it to work. It’s nice because your sim can be doing something else while their mood is being boosted; light up some Sharpening Saffron to get Focused while playing chess or Evocative Lemon to boost Inspiration while making music.
There are lots of other items within the game that players can use to affect how their sim is feeling, but these are some of the easiest to use.
In Conclusion
It’s never fun when a cheat you’ve relied on stops working, especially if it’s something that makes playing the game so much easier. It’s unclear why the mood cheats were disabled but at least we have alternatives to reach the desired outcome that aren’t too complex or time-consuming.
