Would you like your teens to adopt babies, or have kids who were adopted search for their biological parents? Thanks to adoption mods, both are possible! Read on to discover the best mods for adoption and how they work!
Why you should try adoption mods for the Sims 4?
If you have ever tried adopting in the Sims 4, you probably noticed that adoption is always limited to babies, toddlers, and children. On top of that, kids can only be adopted by Young Adults, Adults, and Elder Sims, which leaves teens completely out of the equation.
The adoption process, however, isn’t especially realistic, either. While adoption in real life requires a lengthy screening process, in Sims 4 this process is greatly simplified, and you won’t need to meet with social service workers to adopt. Your Sim will disappear for a little while, and boom, they are back with a child.
This is why we have selected four adoption mods that will give you more choices to choose whom you adopt, how you adopt and interact with adopted children, and which characters can adopt. Let’s get into it!
1. Foster Family Mod by LittleMsSam
Do you have a lovely home, and are looking to adopt? Foster Family Mod is a creation from LittleMsSam that allows your Sims to join the network of foster families and give foster children a warm, loving home. Once your Sim joins and registers as a foster family, they become eligible to foster kids or pets. All adoptees are randomly generated orphaned characters, and thanks to this adoption mod, you can care for more than one Sim or pet. They can disappear and run away from home, so you can call them back, or even give them up if they cause too much trouble for your household.
With this adoption mod, your Sim can now search for the adoptee they click with online, or wait to get a call from the foster service. Your family will get to know the foster child/pet first before you officially choose to become their foster parent. Once you decide that you are a perfect match, you will complete the adoption, and welcome them. When looking to adopt, you can browse through foster kids or pets’ data of photos and personal info once a day.
If you change your mind and decide you no longer want to be a foster family, simply Unregister, be it from fostering kids or the pets network. The mod allows you to adopt anyone who needs care, and this includes not only toddlers and children but also teens and pets (kittens, puppies, adults, and elders). The adoption mod will ensure weekly child support to help you provide them with food and shelter. It’s not much, but it’s enough to cover their food expenses and buy them some toys. Like a real pet parent, you will also need to take your pets to the vet if they get sick or need to get neutered, pay vet bills, and interact with them daily.
To learn more about this adoption mod and try it out in your gameplay, read about it and download the Foster Family Mod here.
2. Adoption Overhaul – mod #9 from Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul by Lumpinou
Adoption overhaul is Module #9 of Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul. With your partner’s consent, your Sim can now put babies, toddlers, and children for adoption, and choose who gets to adopt them if you want to. Expect real emotions with Adoption Overhaul mod, as your Sims to be emotionally shaken up once they say goodbye to their kids, and will have emotional flashbacks.
You will have two adoption systems you can join, no matter if you want to give your child up for adoption or are looking to adopt. The Foster System will take your kids, place them into a random family, and you will never hear from them again. Sim World Agency, however, allows you to not only chose who gets to adopt them but can also keep in touch with your kids after you give them up.
For Sims looking to adopt, unlike the Foster System, the Sim World Agency will help them apply for adoption and pay them a visit to determine whether they and their home are suitable for getting a new family member – how much they make, how big is their home, and how social and healthy their family is). This option also gives you a chance to decide whether you want to adopt the child they pick for you.
The after-adoption period is as realistic. If fostered at a very young age (baby and toddler) via this adoption mod, the adoptive family will have to tell their adopted kids they are adopted, like in a movie! The adopted child can later ask their adoptive parents who their biological parents are, and try to get in touch with them. They can even meet them and ask why they gave them up in the first place. The same goes for your Sims who have put their children up for adoption via Sim World Agency.
The adoption module is just one of the 10 smaller modules that are one big, incredible mod creation. To learn about how adoption works, discover what else the mod brings and download it, you can get the Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul here.
3. Suggest Adopting a Child or a Pet Interactions by Flauschtrud
Now here comes a little spice for a more interesting story progression. With this adoption mod, created by Flauschrud, you can encourage other Sims to adopt. The new ”Suggest Adopting a Child” will add a child or a toddler to your friend’s household and make the Sim you used the interaction on a parent. To spice things up, the mod is set in a way that doesn’t always ensure that your suggestion will be taken into account. This is a great way to expand other families without having to switch on and off between active households. To download, you’ll find the link, and the info for Suggest Adopting a Child Interaction Mod here.
To suggest adopting pets, download Suggest Adopting a Pet Interaction mod from the same creator, which works in a similar way. This pet adoption mod will open an option to adopt a random Sims-generated cat, or a dog, but also allow them to suggest to their friends to adopt strays wandering around their neighborhood. Any Sim who is your friend and a young adult or older will be able to adopt via this interaction. However, know that you can suggest adopting strays only if you have met the targeted stray can or dog when they are nearby.
4. Teen adoption mods by Randyxx
Randyxx has created four adoption mods for your to play with so that you can not only adopt teens but also have teens become adoptive parents! You will get to expand your family, and get to choose whether you want to pay an adoption fee or not. These are your module choices to experiment with:
- Mod 1: Adopt a Teen – If your Sim is a young adult or older, they are given a unique chance to expand their family and adopt Sims as young as babies, and as old as teenagers. With this one, you will get a chance to pick from 4 babies and 4 toddlers (2 boys and 2 girls), 6 children, and 6 teens (3 boys and 3 girls). With this module, you will have to pay a $2,000 fee upon adoption.
- Mod file 2: Adopt a Teen + adoption is free – Gives you the same opportunity to adopt babies, toddlers, children, and teens, just without paying a fee.
- Mod file 3: Teens Can Adopt – allows your teen-elder Sims to adopt and become adoptive parents! However, teens won’t be able to adopt other teens, only babies, toddlers, and children. With this adoption mod, you will get to choose from 4 babies and 4 toddlers (2 boys and 2 girls), and 6 children (3 boys and 3 girls). To adopt, you will have to pay a fee of $1,000.
- Mod file 4: Teens Can Adopt + adoption is free – This one gives you the same options as mod file 3, but you won’t have to pay a $1,000 fee.
To get modules 2,3 and 4, follow this link. To get module 1, you will find the download file here, alongside module 2.
This bunch is base game compatible. The adopt teen modules and teen adoption modules work perfectly together. However, to get the best experience you‘ll have to pick wisely between the two options available (with fee or without fee) as they can’t work together. So, for the adopt a teen option choose either a mod file 3 or 4, and for the teen adoption option pick between either a mod file 1 or 2.
Conclusion
Adoption mods give you a chance to expand your adoption experience and make it replicate real life in various ways or even go a step further, and allow teens to adopt. They give you a chance to expand your family in a more interactive, and fun way where you get to know your future adoptive kids and have much more control over the whole adoption process. You get to decide what works for you!
