The Sims 4 is a huge game with a lot of features—it’s easy to miss the details if you don’t know where to look! Here are some fun facts about the game you might have missed!

The Sims 4 is over a decade old and as of the time of writing, it has nearly 100 DLCs. Its Kits, Stuff Packs, Game Packs, and Expansion Packs run the gamut of practical to fantastical, scientific to magical, city-focused to country oriented, and so much more. Chances as very good that there are details hiding within the game that you’re completely unaware of. Some of these features are only accessible under incredibly specific circumstances that are almost impossible to stumble on organically, some are behind traits/careers/locations you may not typically play with, and some are just neat little things you might have never noticed happening before.
Sims 4 “Fun Facts” You Probably Missed
Let’s see how many of these fun facts you already knew, and how many are new to you!
1. Left or Right?
Fun fact: sims have a dominant hand! This is something that’s randomly selected when a sim is first created, but you can use cheats if you want your sim to have a specific preference:
traits.equip_trait trait_handedness_left makes them left-handed
traits.equip_trait trait_handedness_right makes them right-handed
2. There Are 2 Secret Lots In The Base Game
When The Sims 4 first released it only came with the worlds of Willow Creek and Oasis Springs. Newer worlds tend to have a lot more “off-lot” activities such as the amusement rides of Copperdale and the walking paths of San Sequoia, but those original worlds don’t have much worth exploring. Or do they?
The Hidden Lot Of Willow Creek

In the Foundry Cove Neighborhood next to Crick Cabana there stands a tree. This tree is different than those around it though, with mushrooms growing out of the trunk and odd blue tendrils sprouting over its bark. When first interacting with this tree your sim will only have the option to View it but after a few times new interactions will unlock, and eventually after interacting with it enough times a hole will appear in the base of the trunk and the Explore option will appear.
You will need to navigate a series of choices but if you make the right decisions your sim will travel to Sylvan Glade, a beautiful pink-tinged place with a gorgeous waterfall and several spots where your sim can go fishing; the Treefish is exclusive to this location.
This mystical place is in perpetual twilight and immune to weather changes so it’s a safe place for nearly any sim to visit.
The Hidden Lot Of Oasis Springs

Surrounded by boulders, Desert Bloom Park sits next to a dried out riverbed. Beyond the Park there are trees, grills, and tables, but if you look closely you may notice a boarded up mine adit tucked into the rocks. Sims with Level 10 Handiness Skill can pull the boards down and Explore the adit (and other sims can explore as well once it’s been opened).
Choose the correct options from the choices presented to your sim and they will find their way to Forgotten Grotto, a long-abandoned mine dotted with crystals and bright blue waters where your sims can fish; this is the only location in the game where they can catch the rare Batfish.
Although the sun streaks through openings atop the mine, this lot is safe from the sun and inclement weather.
3. In Space, Anyone Can Hear You Woohoo!
If you have a pair of adventurous amorous sims you’ve probably had them Woohoo in every way possible, which at this point is quite an extensive list. Unless your sim is a science nerd, however, they might have never experienced the thrill of zero-gravity Woohoo. Send a Flirty couple to space in a rocket ship and put on a good performance, as naughty nearby sims have the option to Listen to Space Woohoo on computers while the couple enjoy their celestial rendezvous.
4. Light The Way To Keep Monsters At Bay

Children in The Sims 4 can have their dreams interrupted by a real monster, its tentacles creeping out from under their beds as they sleep. They can ask an older sim to spray monster repellent under the bed to keep it away, or take the bold route and try to befriend the monster on their own.
There is a way to keep the monster from showing up at all, though! Placing a Coolala Defender Light night light near your Child’s bed should prevent the monster from spawning at all. It should also work with Regular ‘ol Night Light, Starry-Night Night Light, and Night Owl Toy Night Light from the Parenthood Pack and the Night Night Moon Lamp from the Werewolves Pack, although there have been complaints online from simmers that the moon lamp doesn’t always work.
5. It Was A Mushroom Mash!
The Creature Keeper of Henford-on-Bagley is just one NPC who can send your sim on errands. There’s a specific errand of his called Mushroom Madness which has your sim gathering mysterious mushrooms and eventually trying a bowl of Mushroom Mash. After eating the mash, find a Flock of Wild Birds and your sim will have the option to “Talk to (and Really Listen)” which lets the sim actually understand the things the birds are telling them. It’s as if the mushrooms were magic!
6. Be Like Snow White

Speaking of Henford-on-Bagley, if your sim is in The Bramblewood they can have their own Snow White moment by singing. When your sim belts out a tune they will be surrounded by friendly birds who join in their song, even if they’re practicing Singing for the very first time. It’s quite whimsical.
7. Scruberoo Isn’t Just For Stuff & Sims
Fun fact: if you’ve got Realm of Magic and Cottage Living, Spellcaster sims can use the Scruberoo spell on cows, llamas, and chickens!
8. Find A Long-Lost Relative

One of the many things your sims can do on the computer is Research, and with Growing Together they can Research their Genealogy. After spending some time online studying their family tree it’s possible that a mysterious sim claiming to be a long-lost relative might give you a call and ask to come visit. If you accept, a sim bearing a noticeable resemblance to your own will arrive for a stay and then show in the Relationship Panel as their cousin!
9. Ride The Lightning!
Sims with the Storm Chaser, Erratic, or Loves the Outdoors Trait(s) who get struck by lightning will become Supercharged. After a second strike they become Hypercharged, at which point you can click the ground and summon a lightning strike at-will.
If you have Eco Lifestyle you can also try for this effect by pushing the big red button on a generator, but your sim also might just die. Save first, and/or have a resurrection plan on standby!
10. Go To The Movies For A Mood Boost

There’s a movie theatre in the Anchorpoint Wharf section of San Sequoia that your sim can visit to see several films. If you have Movie Night Stuff there’s an option to declare a recently-viewed movie your sim’s favorite film, and that choice along with their Traits will determine which movies they will enjoy or find boring at the movie theatre. For example, Unflirty sims won’t enjoy Romance movies, Gloomy sims will love Horror movies, and Snobs will dislike Action movies unless they’ve previously declared an Action movie as their favorite.
You may also get a chance card during the film which can affect how much sims enjoy their time at the theatre, and they can even be kicked out for being disruptive!
Bonus fun fact: sims also enjoy/detest different TV channels based on their Traits and Life Stage.
More on SNOOTYSIMS: You can edit Sylvan Glade, Forgotten Grotto, and other non-editable Lots with the Edit Lot cheat!

11. A Bouquet Of Flowers Can Change Everything
Flower Arranging is a Skill that came with Seasons that allows your sims to create over 60 different flower arrangements, along with wedding bouquets if you have My Wedding Stories. Unless your sim is big into botany you might not even know about the variety of flowers you can encounter in the game, and making arrangements with them can have life-altering consequences.
Flower arrangements of Excellent quality can be scented with one of 15 different flowers and they have a whole slew of effects. Some are good such as the ability to calm bees or slow the decay of fresh flowers, some are silly such as making your sims sleepy or causing them to be smitten with your sim exclusively for several days, and some are powerful to the point they can reset your sim’s current age or speed them toward an early grave!
12. Make Grilled Cheese Their Entire Personality

Fun fact: the Grilled Cheese Aspiration first appeared in The Sims 2 and it made its comeback in Patch 30 of The Sims 4. To unlock this secret Aspiration you need to have your sim eat grilled cheese three times in a row, at which point it can be selected from the Food Aspiration category.
Unsurprisingly the goals of the different Aspiration levels all surround cooking, serving, eating, and discussing grilled cheese, and completing the Aspiration will allow sims to summon plates of grilled cheese at-will (unfortunately they won’t do it autonomously) and create unique grilled cheese-themed paintings. Sims who share the Grilled Cheese Aspiration have twice the chemistry with each other vs. what they have with other sims.
13. A Sprite-Summoning Secret Society
The Order of Enchantment is a secret society that sims attending University can be invited to join. In order to be invited you sim needs to “Make Offering for Academic Success” to their respective uni’s main monument, with the quality of the offering affecting the chances of being invited. Excellent quality items, rare collectibles, and other high-value offerings give your sims the best chance. You may also stumble upon a secret society meeting which occurs northeast of Pepper’s Pub by the nearby ruins (if you’re looking at the world map, it’s southwest of the pub), however you cannot approach and be invited to join this way.
The Order is focused on worshiping Sprites, and how well or poorly you perform your secret society duties determines how the Sprites will treat you. Appease them and they can be summoned on-command to fill your needs and change your mood, but if you make them unhappy things can get Tense!
14. A Penthouse With A View

Fun fact: the VIII Landgraab apartment found in Uptown San Myshuno has the Great View Lot Trait, which is a unique and non-removable trait exclusive to this location. With this trait you can click any of the three windows in the south-facing side of the apartment (between the elevator and deck) and select “Look Out Window” which grants your sim an Energized moodlet from taking in the view.
15. Give A Eulogy Without L&D
You don’t need to have the Life & Death Expansion to fondly remember a departed sim. If your played sim has an Urn/Tombstone in their inventory, a Charisma level of at least 6, and there’s a Rostrum Station or The PODUS podium nearby, you can click on the deceased sim’s Urn/Tombstone and select “Give Eulogy” at which point your sim will speak at the podium about the deceased.
16. We’re Not Just Blowing Smoke

If your Lot has a fireplace and a chimney on the roof, here’s another fun fact. The chimney will bellow smoke whenever the fireplace is lit. Sorry, Father Winter!
17. A Flaming-Hot Haunting
Fun fact: Ghost sims can possess burning bonfires! When they enter the fire there will be a burst of glowing embers that swirl through the air, forming a burning skull that floats above the fire. This spooky flare will startle nearby sims and it looks very cool!
18. Knit Like Your Life Depends On It!

You’ve probably heard of the Sweater Curse that comes with Nifty Knitting, but that’s not the only powerful piece your sims can craft. If you’ve hit level 10 in the Knitting Skill you can craft a plush called Lil’ Grim. Have your sim gift that plush to the Grim Reaper, and he’ll love it so much that he’ll reset the age progress of your sim!
19. A (Snaggle) Flustering Cocktail
The Snaggle Fluster cocktail might be the hardest drink recipe for your sims to unlock. It’s only accessible when your sim is working at Level 9 of the Mixologist Career, so if you want to get it make sure to keep your sim from getting that final promotion.
While your sim is at work, you might get a random Chance Card where a mysterious elderly stranger offers your sim to purchase the Mythical Drink Guide from them. Purchase the guide, and then once your sim reaches Level 10 of the Mixology Skill they can mix the Snaggle Fluster.
A sim who drinks a Snaggle Fluster cocktail will have their skills grow 4x faster, at the cost of their Bladder need decreasing 6x faster. They might just wet themselves after they drink it!
20. Terrorize The Neighborhood From Your Hot Tub

Not-so-fun fact: this is by far the trickiest, most obscure fun fact we could find! In order to access this interaction your sim needs the following:
- Level 3 Handiness Skill
- Level 10 Mischief Skill
- Reach the top of the Secret Agent, Scientist, or Criminal career
- Have the Evil, Mean or Genius Trait
First, your sim will need to upgrade a hot tub with the Aromatherapy feature which takes 3 Common Upgrade Parts and 1 Plumbing Upgrade Part. Once this feature has been added and your sim meets all the requirements above they will have the option under the Aromatherapy menu to Use Thioacetone Oil. Thioacetone is considered one of the worst-smelling chemicals EVER.
When you use thioacetone oil the hot tub will immediately break, its water turning a noxious green. Every sim in the neighborhood will get an Uncomfortable moodlet for 4 hours, and at the end of that 4 hours they’ll throw up!
