Cowplants do not just look weirdly adorable, but they’re also a great garden companion! Get to know all the details about the mysterious yet deadly Cowplant from The Sims 4!
Cowplants in The Sims Series
Ah, the famed Cowplant. This deadly carnivorous plant, also known by its scientific name Laganaphyllis Simnovorii, is famous for devouring unknowing Sims to death and for producing a precious milk or essence that extends the lives of Sims. Making its first appearance in The Sims 2 as a career reward for the Natural Science Career, it made a comeback in The Sims 3 Store as buyable premium content. Now, in The Sims 4, the Cowplant is reintroduced as an actual plant that must be grown and tended to. Below, you can learn more about how to obtain and take care of this highly notorious plant!
How To Get The CowPlant
It looks like an animal and is known for eating Sims, yet it’s a plant?! It’s no surprise, as far as various plants in The Sims 4 go, that this is the weirdest flora you will come across in the game! If you haven’t seen these plants before, prepare yourself for their uncanny appearance and movements. But how exactly can you grow this terrifying yet adorable Cowplant? Well, you can’t just buy it from Build Mode or get it as a career reward. What you have to do is collect a rare Cowplant Berry and plant it in your Sim’s lot.

Where To Get The CowPlant Berry
There are different ways of acquiring the rare Cowplant Berries in the game. Here are all the following ways on how your Sims can acquire one:
- Attending The Spice Festival – During the Spice Festival, your Sims can find some harvestable plants that have Cowplant Berries!
- Grafting – If your Sims have Snapdragon and Dragonfruit plants, they can take cuttings from these two, and graft these together to obtain some Cowplant Berries.
- Fishing – Send your Sims to the Desert Bloom Park in Oasis Springs and let them fish in the small pond near the cave. Alternatively, they can also go fishing in the Forgotten Grotto. Cowplant Berries are often fished in these areas.
- Digging – Your Sims can also try digging the random dirt piles on the ground to find Cowplant Berries.
- Going to Space – With a rocket ship, your Sims can visit Space and look for Cowplant Berries there.
- Ordering Seeds – Sometimes, the Cowplant Berries can come in Rare Seed Packets that can be ordered via the computer.
Planting the Cowplant
Once your Sims have their hands on Cowplant Berries, let them plant these seeds on a planter, either outside or inside the house. No gardening skills are needed for this. When the Cowplant starts growing, you will notice a small sprout on the soil. After some days, you can then see a baby Cowplant on the planter. A few more days after this stage, the Cowplant will finally mature into its adult stage.
How To Look After The CowPlant
When the Cowplant reaches maturity, you’ll want your Sims to take the best care of them! There are a few things that they can do for the Cowplant:
- Feed – In The Sims 4, Cowplants will go hungry every 12 hours and would need to be fed, as in the previous editions of the game. Sims will need to feed the plant some meat. If unfed for a long time, they will die and leave a skeleton form.
- Play With – Your Sims can play with the Cowplant. Children Sims can do this interaction too.
- Name – Give the Cowplant a name.
- Uproot Plant – Sims may uproot the Cowplant anytime.
- Pet – Like cats and dogs, Cowplants can also receive some tender loving care from your Sims!
- Milk – There is a special essence from the Cowplant, which you can milk after a certain instance. Read more about this one below.
- Collect Sample – With Logic skills, Sims can start collecting samples from the Cowplant and analyze these samples.
Death By Cowplant
Sims can die through the hands (or should we say tongues) of Cowplants. As we said before, the plant needs to be fed with meat every 12 hours. If not, they would go hungry and put a cake trap on their tongues. Any unawaring Sim who eats this cake will be swallowed whole, but thankfully, the Cowplant will spit them out. However, if the same Sim once again eats the cake from this Cowplant within a few days, they would be devoured to death.
Milking The CowPlant!
As we said earlier, you can also milk the Cowplant. But, this process would only work in certain situations. If your Cowplant has successfully swallowed a Sim (whether the Sim died or lived), then it can be milked at that point. Milking Cowplants will let your Sims obtain a drink called the Essence of Life or the Essence of Happiness. These essences, when drunk, would add extra days to the lifespan of a Sim, or instantly boost their mood.
Using CowPlant Cheats
Of course, sometimes we just enjoy using cheats to get things done faster. The same applies to the Cowplant in The Sims 4! If you want, you can use a cheat to conveniently buy Cowplants or Cowplant Berries in the debug mode. Enter testingcheats true, then use this cheat:
- bb.showhiddenobjects
After you have used the cheat code, type in ‘Cowplant’ in Build Mode, hit the search button, and you will find the Cowplant items. Voila! You’re now ready to have a Cowplant in your lot!
Getting the Mini Cowplant
If you want to have a Cowplant in your Sim’s home without the fear of your Sims and other Sims getting accidentally eaten, you can opt to purchase a mini Cowplant, called the Amuse-Bouch Cowplant. These Cowplants are buyable decors (180 simoleons) that have been introduced through The Sims 4: Paranormal. They do not need to be fed and they do not die, but they still appear like normal Cowplants. Your Sims can also give them a name.
Cow-nclusion
Cowplants are one of the most iconic things in the Sims 4. If you haven’t tried planting one yet, you should definitely do so in your next playtime. Not only would it make you laugh, what with its weird swaying antics and Sim-eating habits, but it would also terrify you a bit. LOL!
