September 16 Update: We now have a newer tutorial linked on SNOOTYSIMS that not only re-categorizes CC lashes, but also shows you how to update old meshes to get them properly positioned. You can read it here!
Want to use your CC falsies with the new game update? Here’s a simple tutorial on how to fix miscategorized CC lashes using Sims4Studio.
The Sims 4 has updated which means a lot of mods are currently broken. Typically these updates affect script mods the most, but every once in a while something gets changed that can break other CC objects too. Now that The Sims 4 has finally given us the option to add lashes to our sims independent of their eye type, older CC eyelashes aren’t necessarily working because of how things have been re-categorized in CAS. Luckily it’s a pretty simple fix!
How To Fix Miscategorized CC Lashes
All you need to fix miscategorized CC lashes for The Sims 4 is the program Sims 4 Studio (abbreviated to S4S). You’ll also want to know the filenames of the CC lashes you have installed.
Unmerging Merged Packages
Before you get started updating your lashes, you will need to unmerge any that have been merged into a single file. Click here to skip this step if your CC lashes are already unmerged files.
Open S4S, go to the Content Management option at the top of the screen and select Un-merge Package. Then, hit Browse… next to the Merged Package line and navigate to the merged CC package that you want to unmerge.
If the Un-merge Folder isn’t set or is set to a destination you don’t want, you can click Browse… on that line and select your desired destination for the new unmerged files. Make sure to note where this destination is! Your package will then be unmerged to all its components and you can fix each piece individually.
Fixing Those CC Lashes
Open S4S and click the My Projects button. Navigate to the CC Lash file you want to update, select it, and click Open. In the center of the left side of the screen below all the swatches you will see several tabs; click the one that says Categories. Then, in the dropdown menu next to Outfit Type change whatever is there to Mask Detail and once you do that, click the Apply To All Swatches button next to it (assuming your CC lashes have more than one swatch—if they don’t, you can skip this part). Once you’ve done this, click Save on the bottom right of the window and boom! You now know how to fix miscategorized CC lashes!
If the CC package you fixed wasn’t in your Mods folder, you’ll need to move it there so you can check your work in the game (obviously, let your newly updated CC package overwrite the old one if you already have a copy of this CC in your Mods folder). If you worked on a merged package and want to re-merge it so everything overwrites correctly, read below. Otherwise click here to skip this step.
Re-Merging Unmerged Files
Once you have all the components of your unmerged file, you can re-merge it back to its original form. Go back to the Content Management option at the top of the screen and select Merge Packages… which will open up another window. Here you can choose to drag-and-drop all the files you want to merge, or you can click the Add button and select individual files (tip: use SHIFT and CTRL keys to highlight multiple files at once instead of adding each one manually).
Once all the files you want to merge are added click the Merge button, and you will be prompted to save your new merged package. Pay attention to where you’ve saved it and the name you’ve given the file! In order for it to correctly overwrite the old miscategorized files the new merged package should have the exact same name as the old merged package. You can copy + paste the package name from the old file to the new file, and once that’s done place the newly re-merged file into your Mods folder in the same place as the old file so you’ll be prompted to override it.
Assuming everything is done correctly, the files will be fully replaced and your game will be none the wiser!

Important Notes
There are a few things to keep in mind regarding how to fix miscategorized CC lashes in order to fully enjoy them.
- What you’re doing will not affect the CC lash textures in any way. This means that if these lashes are texture mapped somewhere that conflicts with glasses, jewelry, etc. they will still have that problem.
- Sims will keep the lashes attached to their eye shape even when wearing other lashes from the Eyelashes category. To fix this, either:
- change your sim’s eye shape to one without prominent lashes (you can use the cas.fulleditmode cheat before entering CAS if your sim is already made), or
- download a No Eyelashes mod (do note that these mods may themselves need updating after the recent patch) to remove all eye shape-attached lashes from the game.
- The space on the texture map for new EA lashes is very, very small. If you’re waiting for your favorite CC creators to update their lashes for you, note that they will either continue to conflict with other accessories (if the creator doesn’t want to modify the texture map) or likely end up less detailed if the modder chooses to move their textures to the new location on the texture map.
Final Thoughts
Updates that bring big changes to The Sims 4 are always exciting but unfortunately they come with the downside that CC can sometimes stop working correctly. We’re so glad that eyelashes are finally their own separate thing in the game and with this handy how-to, you now know how to fix miscategorized CC lashes on your own! Do you have CC lashes you’re eager to get updated or do you prefer the EA version? Are you excited for the new lash styles? Let us know in the comments, don’t poke your eye with that mascara wand, and happy simming!
