New Features in Sims 4: Vampires

As with all game and expansion packs, our expectations were quite high when The Sims 4: Vampires, the fifth game pack for The Sims 4, was released in January 2017. But let us admit that it did not disappoint us at all! In fact, the said game pack included many fascinating features and items that made our gameplay so much more thrilling. Below, is an overview of what this game pack offers.

1. A New Occult Life State

Vampire 9

Making their first appearance in The Sims 2: Nightlife, the Vampire life state has finally returned to our beloved franchise. When creating a Vampire Sim in Create-A-Sim (CAS), you get to customize the normal look of your Sims, as well as their vampiric version, which is called their “Dark Form”. This means that your Sims can look normal when they want to, and then jump out of nowhere with their glowing eyes and fangs whenever they transform!

2. The Forgotten Hollow

Forgotten Hollow

Not every game pack gives you a whole new world! Yet, The Sims 4: Vampires has allowed us this affordance. In this game pack, you can move into a new world called the Forgotten Hollow. It’s a mysterious and dark place filled with a lot of mist and enveloped within tall and terrifying woods. It’s also dotted with grand, ancient-looking mansions, which are reminiscent of Victorian and Gothic architecture from Eastern Europe. Don’t forget to say hello to the main star of Forgotten Hollow, Vladislaus Straud, once you’re in the area!

3. Brand New Objects

With the launch of The Sims 4: Vampires game pack, came our access to brand-new cool stuff! There are over 151 items introduced in this pack. Here are just some of our favorite objects and Build Mode items that came with it:

  • Paul’s Bearer of Bad News – A coffin bed that provides energy for your vampire Sims!
  • Spiky Gothic Dining Chair – This one’s a grand-looking chair perfect for eating grand dinners.
  • Napri Parlour Organ – Raise your Sim’s Pipe Organ skill with this enchanting Pipe Organ!
  • Ancient Family Portraits – Any wall with these paintings would look instantly eerie!
  • The Winged Gargoyle – This sculpture is the perfect artwork to add to any Gothic build!
  • Bearcula – Rumor has it that this stuffed toy is also a vampire. It has no reflection in the mirror!

4. New Skills and Aspirations

The Sims 4: Vampires has introduced two new skills, the Pipe Organ and the Vampire Lore. Your Sims can build up skills in the former by playing with the Pipe Organ instrument, which pretty much functions like the piano. Sims can raise this skill for the latter by reading the Encyclopedia Vampirica, which comes in four purchasable tomes. The said game pack also launched three new vampire aspirations: the Vampire Family, the Master Vampire, and the Good Vampire. Here’s a brief description of each:

  • Vampire Family – With the Vampire Family, your blood-thirsty Sims must have offspring (turning other Sims to Vampires will make them your Sims’ offspring) and train them, as well as convert other Sims to Full Grown Vampires.
  • Master Vampire – The ultimate goal is for your Sim to become a Grand Master Vampire, to read the Ultimate Vampire Tome, and to survive an additional 20 days as a Vampire.
  • Good Vampire – To achieve this aspiration, your vampire Sims must survive their lives by taming their thirst for blood, mainly by drinking with permission from Sims.

All About the Vampire Gameplay

Leading and living the vampire lifestyle are the main aspects of this game pack. As Vampire Sims, they can use their supernatural powers to influence other Sims, become immortal, and even fly like a bat. They can grow their power and keep improving themselves as they climb up in their Vampire Ranks.

How to Become a Vampire

Vampire 8

There are three ways of playing with vampires in The Sims 4. Check out all the options for you:

  • Being Turned by Vampires – The easiest way is for your Sim to ask another vampire to turn them. Once they agree, these Sims will bite your Sims and offer their blood to complete the process.
  • Creating One in CAS – Of course, you can simply create a Vampire Sim in the Create-a-Sim (CAS) mode. This is a better option if you want to fully customize the Dark Form of your Sims.
  • Being a Vampire Offspring – A Sim who has one Vampire parent can have a 50% chance of becoming a vampire while having two Vampire parents guarantee a 100% chance of being a vampire. Sims can also become a vampire when born into a lot with the “On a Dark Ley Line” lot trait.

How To Turn Others Into Vampires

Vampire 7

Your Vampire Sims have the ability to turn other Sims into fanged creatures of the night without their consent. Once your Vampire Sims bite these unaware Sims, they will get strange moodlets for the next 36 hours that will cause them to become hungry but have no appetite for real food. They will soon become completely transformed and get the “Thirsty” moodlet once they have become a vampire.

Vampire Strengths and Weaknesses

vampire 3

Vampires must drink blood or consume Plasma Fruits and Plasma Packs in order to satisfy their Thirst bar (which replaces their Hunger bar). Early on, they also cannot walk out in daylight, as the sun will burn and kill them. But as we mentioned earlier, your Vampire Sims can get numerous abilities as they gain more power and climb in their Vampiric Ranks, which are as follows:

  • Level 1 – Fledgling
  • Level 2 – Minor
  • Level 3 – Prime
  • Level 4 – Master
  • Level 5 – Grand Master Vampire

In each rank, your Sims get to obtain certain powers as well as weaknesses. Powers can range from vampiric charm, strength, mind-reading, and garlic immunity, to supernatural strength and others (25 in total). While weaknesses include eternal sadness, insatiable thirst, uncontrollable hissing, etc. Make sure that you plan well on choosing which powers to imbue your Sims with, as they each cost specific power points, and may conflict with other vampiric abilities.

Curing Vampirism

vampire 4

If your Sims no longer want to be creatures of the night, they can be cured of their vampirism. With level 15 of the Vampire Lore skill, they can concoct a special drink on the bar, called “The Ultimate Vampire Cure.” Here’s the recipe for it:

  • 10 Plasma Fruit
  • 10 Woflsbane
  • 10 Garlic

After drinking this, your Sims will be able to give up their vampiric life and all the abilities that came with it. Regular Sims who have this drink on their inventory can “slay” other Vampires by throwing this drink into their faces.
