Step back 30 years or to the turn of the millennium with Retrofruit: the coolest mod of the year!

In February of this year The Sims celebrated its 25th birthday with the Blast from the Past Event which treated us to some awesome flashback items from the year 2000 such as decorative house phones, inflatable furniture, and more. For OG simmers and other older players it was a fun trip down memory lane, and for younger players it was a neat retro addition to the game.
Arnie’s new mod creation, Retrofruit, is what you would get if Blast from the Past had been a free Kit instead. It takes the retro-tech spirit we loved in that Event and elevates it to a completely new level, bringing new functional technology from across the last 30 years and integrating it seamlessly with vanilla game content. Keep reading to learn all about Retrofruit.
Call Out To The Past With Retrofruit
The Retrofruit mod adds content to The Sims 4 from three different time periods: the year 1995, 2005, and 2025. Several of these items bring new game-play elements making the mod not just beautiful to look at, but fun and functional to play with.
Computers From Across Time

The Sims 4 has plenty of modern computer devices for your sims to choose from, but for an older vibe or historical saves the options are somewhat limited. Retrofruit introduces two new computers, the iPlum Classic and iPlum 2000 desktop PCs. iPlum Classic is a chunky early-model PC available in classic black, white, and beige along with a fun purple swatch for those with more colorful tastes. iPlum 2000 has 9 total color options with a mix of bright hues with blank screens along with neutral tones that have multiple desktop background options. The body of the computer is a metallic half-dome which was futuristic-looking for the time period.
Printing-On-Demand, No Expensive Ink Cartridges Needed

Have you ever wished your sims could have a physical facsimile of their bills, stories, news articles, and more? Using the PlumPrinter you can print up physical, functional documents which can be further edited, and hovering over them will produce a Tooltip with the print-outs’ contents. The printer comes in 9 different watches.
Capture & Store Photos And More On Physical Media!

Cell phone cameras and cloud storage were still in their infancy back in 2000, so it was much more common to see sims snapping pictures with a standalone camera and storing their photos and documents on physical media. With PlumCam Vintage your sims can capture those memory-worthy moments which can be backed-up on floppy disc (younger folks should recognize this as the “save” icon), writable CD, or USB stick. Written documents can be stored on them too! These items can then be organized in the CD Tower or Storage Tower, freeing up space and helping things stay sorted.
A Fully Functional Wall Phone

Blast from the Past gave us wall (and table) phones but unfortunately these are purely cosmetic. With Retrofruit your sims have access to a fully functional wall phone, The RetroPhone. A high-tech phone in an old-fashioned case this cordless wall phone gives your sims access to the amenities they’re used to, wrapped up in a nostalgic handheld package. It even includes a nifty animated screen!
Mini-Music With Big Sound

Millennials fondly remember our first music players, separate devices from our mobiles with corded headphones that could only store a fraction of the music we have at our fingertips today. Being part of the iPlum family, the miniPod music player comes in 8 colors and docs perfectly on The miniPod Station for full-bodied sound.
A Desk Worth Working On

To wrap it all up, you can place your lovely Retrofruit electronics on the Plumfruit Pro Desk. A sleek L-shaped desk with plenty of storage, available in 7 neutral colors. This handsome piece of furniture will hold all of your Retrofruit goodies and more!

Closing Thoughts
If you’ve been wanting to further immerse your sims in the charm of prior decades, Retrofruit is a fabulous way to combine the aesthetic of the time with The Sims 4’s technology and game play. Furnish an outdated office, take some flashback photos, enhance your 90’s historical save, and more!
Personally, I’m surprised Arnie hasn’t been hired to work for EA yet. I think this mod is so cool and will definitely be using it in my game! What do you think? Let us know in the comments! Happy simming!
