Tired of your Sims house in the suburbs and want to relocate them to the countryside? Does your Sim want to move to the mountains of Mt. Komorebi to fulfill their daily meditation rituals without interference from noisy apartment neighbors? Time to move out and broaden their horizons then! There are many ways to go about this, but first, let’s go over the simplest way to move out of a Sims house.
Move out of a sims house using your phone
Example scenario: So you’ve gone from e-famous Influencer to an A-List Celebrity and now your studio apartment in San Myshuno just doesn’t cut it anymore.
You need a new home more fitting with your new social class and status, so you’ve decided that you want to move to the Fountainview Penthouse.
A very accessible and easy way to move out of a Sims House during Play Mode is to use their phone! Navigate to their phone and select the Travel icon. You’ll see a menu with prompts to Volunteer, Move Household, Take a Vacation, and Travel.
When you select the Move Household option, you’ll be taken to the Map to choose a new home.
Pick that penthouse and enjoy your gorgeous view of the city!
Don’t worry, you can keep your furnishings and bring them into your new home or you’ll be able to sell your furnishings and then either move into your new home furnished or unfurnished.
Super easy, no-hassle way to move out of a Sims house! But let’s go over the other ways just to cover all of your bases.
Alternative Method: Use the computer to move your Entire household
If you have a computer at your Sims house, you can use it to travel. Another Play Mode option that’s still very easy but could require a tiny bit more effort.
If you don’t have a computer you’ll need to travel to one first.
You can take your Sim to any library, go to Britechester pretending to be a student to take advantage of their fast internet at Foxbury or Ubrite Commons, or if your local cafe has computers you know what to do.
Once you reach a computer you’ll select the Household prompt. You’ll be given several options such as Buy a Restaurant, Volunteer, and more. Select the Move Household option and, once again, you’ll be taken to the Map screen!
Move out of a Sims house using the Manage Worlds map
You can also move your current family by navigating the Manage Worlds Map. Press ESC and the main menu will show up. Click on Manage Worlds.
Open the World Map and then select the active household that you would like to move. Next to the Play icon, you’ll see the options to Travel, Build, and More. Select More and then you’ll see the option to Move out of Household in the bottom-right corner.
You can go down the more unconventional route in the same category. Check out the icon underneath the Move out Household option. You can evict Sims from their home!
Sounds like a harsher method, but if you don’t know where to put them yet they will conveniently be placed under the Household Management menu.
You can always find them there and then decide to move them to a different Sims house when you’re ready. If you wanted a different Sim to move into a home that was already occupied, this will also be the option you can use.
All is fair in the Sims and even if you keep them in the Household Management menu, you can still see those evicted Sims out and about in the worlds as long as you don’t permanently delete them from the Household Management menu. So if you are a more empathetic player, I wouldn’t feel too bad about using the eviction method.
Split and merge households in Household Management
Speaking of the Household Management menu, here you’ll be able to really customize moving households.
Navigate to Manage Households while in the World Map view, then select any single Sim that you want to move.
When their profile comes up, select the arrows icon to choose the Transfer Between Households option.
A split and merge menu will be displayed, showing a list of all of the households in every world. Choose the other household that you want, and then you’ll be shown the option to transfer individual Sims between your two households.
You will also be able to transfer simoleons from one household to another. If you transfer Sims in one household to a new household or neighborhood, the family inventory, furnishings and simoleons will automatically be transferred as well.
Players still have a last-minute option to sell those furnishings instead, however, should they choose to!
These methods are convenient when you launch the game before you’re in Play Mode and already know what Sims house you want to move or you want to move a Sim into an already occupied home.
Moving out of households from the Manage Worlds Map is convenient (when you can do it) because you can skip all of the loading screens that transition from Play Mode to the Manage Worlds map, so you’re essentially saving some time.
How did players move out of a Sims house before?
On the Sims 4 official page, a split and merge household guide published back in 2014 mentioned that Sims couldn’t use their phones to move as they could in Sims 3.
Players automatically had to go to the Household Management menu to move out of a Sims house.
Fortunately, I don’t remember only having to use the Household Management menu to move my Sims. I could have just as likely purchased and played Sims 4 when the moving out from phone update was already added to the game though!
My go-to methods for moving from one Sims house to another are by phone and by eviction. If I’m already in Play Mode and decide I want to see greener pastures, it’s very convenient that I can just use the phone.
Once I first launch Sims 4 before I enter Play Mode, the eviction option is my best friend when I already have a Sim in mind that I want to move around. Plus, I like moving premade Sims families who already occupy houses and moving my Sims there instead.
There you have it! Multiple ways to move out of a Sims house. Happy playing!
