Introducing The Sims 4: Seasons

Seasons is the fifth expansion pack for The Sims 4. Released on June 22, 2018, it has so much to offer, including a weather system, the four seasons of winter, spring, summer, and fall, the holidays and calendar system, new skills and careers, and so much more. If you have played with The Sims 3: Seasons, you’re probably a bit familiar with this pack. Like its predecessor, The Sims 4: Seasons allows your Sims to participate in plenty of season-specific activities and endows your game with all-new colors and sounds brought about by the steady change in daily weather. Below, we are letting you in on all the wondrous features of this expansion pack!

All Features Of The Sims 4 Seasons

1. Get Ready For Four Seasons.

seasons 10

Of course, various seasons are the main aspects of the Seasons expansion pack. Your Sims can enjoy all four, like in real life: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each of these seasons comes with its characteristics. For example, are you a fan of summer’s heatwaves and hot temperatures? Or would you prefer spring’s rainy and cloudy days for your Sims? Your Sims will definitely get to experience all these with this EP.

2. Learn About the Weather System…

Keep in mind that you need to prepare your Sims for the weather, which changes daily, depending on the current season in the game. If it is summer, there will be a high temperature during the day, and if it is winter, the temperature will drop. During fall and spring, drizzles and thunderstorms would be a common occurrence. Luckily, your Sims can know what the weather will be, by watching the Weather Forecast channel on TV. Alternatively, you could also check the current weather and the upcoming forecast in the lower middle part of your game’s UI.

3. …And Deal With the Weather Changes.

seasons 6

The new EP has introduced winter and summer outfits for our Sims, so if it’s very cold and rainy outside, it would be smart to dress your Sims up in winter clothing, and during summer, you must strip them down to prevent overheating. Here are some things they can use to deal with the weather:

  • Thermostat
    • Sims can have the EcoDisc 51M-5 for 125 Simoleons
    • Includes three settings for cool, warm, and normal.
    • Can be turned off
    • Affects bills
  • Weather Machine
    • Sims can buy Dr. June’s Weather Control Device for 1,500 Simoleons
    • Can change the temperature, weather, and season.
    • Can electrocute Sims when used in the rain, or when upgrading the machine with a low handiness skill
  • Umbrella Racks
    • Sims will automatically use umbrellas when it’s raining

3. Know How To Use The Calendar.

seasons 2

The calendar is one of the greatest features of the Seasons EP. When you access it, you can see a variety of things. On the left panel, you can check the full details of the current holidays, schedules, and events for your Sims. This is also where you can add a custom holiday, wedding events, regular events, and stayovers, or see the current weather forecast. Meanwhile, on the right side, you can review what day it is for your Sims, learn about the upcoming holidays, schedules, and events for your Sims, and take a glimpse at how long the seasons will be in the game.

4. Celebrate The Holidays.

seasons 3

With the calendar system, came the ability to celebrate various holidays and holiday traditions in the game. There are four premade holidays:

  • Lovefest – A day for all things romance.
  • Harvestfest – An event that celebrates the fall season harvest.
  • Winterfest – A winter-themed holiday time for your Sims.
  • New Year’s Eve – A celebration for the end of the year.

All of these will start early at 6:00 am and end at 2:00 am. Each of these will have predetermined holiday traditions that your Sims can accomplish. Completing these will help them enjoy the festivities, while not participating will make them sad. However, these are not the only holidays they can take part in. You can create custom holidays and choose from the holiday traditions available on the calendar. Each holiday can have a maximum of five. You can then choose names for your custom holidays and select the specific dates when your Sims would celebrate these.

5. Enjoy The New Objects.

seasons 5

The Seasons EP is filled with so many new objects waiting to be explored! Here are just some of the most notable items from the said pack:

  • Christmas Tree – During Winterfest, Father Winter can choose to place some gifts under this tree. So make sure your Sims are nice all year round!
  • Holiday Decorations – You can choose to let Sims put up different decorations, depending on the holiday they are celebrating.
  • Patchy The Straw Man – Patchy is an interesting scarecrow that can come to life and help your Sims around in the garden.
  • Skating Rinks – Let your Sims bring out their skating shoes and skate their hearts away on these rinks!
  • Snowpals – Create snowmen during winter! This is a fun activity, especially for little Sims.
  • Sprinklers -This item is a gardener’s best friend. These can automatically water surrounding plants.

6. Experience New Deaths

seasons 9

Of course, The Sims 4 is not just all fun and games. There will be tragic moments for your Sims that are related to the Seasons EP, too. All in all, here are different kinds of death introduced in the said expansion pack:

  • Death by Temperature – Your Sims can die when underdressed for cold weather, or when experiencing too much heat during a hot day. Thus, make sure that you watch out for signs of freezing or overheating!
  • Death by Lightning – Your Sims can also get struck by lightning when there’s a thunderstorm outside. If they are carrying umbrellas with them, they are more at risk.
  • Death by Flower Bouquet – Flower arrangements can be scented with a Death Flower. When these are given to Elder Sims, they will die.

7. There Are New Skills and Careers, Too!

Of course, you might also be looking for more ways to improve your Sim’s life with the Seasons EP. You can do that and much more through new skills and careers introduced in the pack. There is a new Flower Arranging skill (10 levels) and a hidden Skating skill (6 levels). For the career, Your Sims can now become a professional Gardener, wherein they can choose to either become a Florist or a Botanist later down the line.

8. Plus, All New Activities!

seasons 12

Our gameplay in The Sims 4 really went up a notch through The Sims 4: Seasons. Here are just a few of our favorite activities that came with this expansion pack:

  • Beekeeping – Your Sims can earn money by taking care of bees through this fun and dangerous activity!
  • Scouting – This is a new afterschool activity for children and teens, that comes with its own ranks, requirements, and promotions.
  • Balloon Fights – Sims can fill balloons with mud, snowball, or water, and have a great fight with these!
  • Rain Activities – Your Sims can play in the rain or take a shower in it. Just be careful of being struck by lightning!
  • Snow Activities – Build Snowpals and make Snow Angels!
  • Leaves – Sims can WooHoo inside leaf piles, or rake the leaves in their backyard during fall.

8. Meet Father Winter and the Flower Bunny.

Father Winter and the Flower Bunny are NPCs that come with certain holidays. They are seen as the symbol of Christmas and Easter in real life and the game.

  • Father Winter – Once he visits your Sims’ lots, Father Winter will give out gifts to the Sims in your household at 8:00 PM. Your Sims can also directly ask him for gifts.
  • Flower Bunny – Based on the German Easter Bunny, the Flower Bunny also visits during custom holidays. They will leave flowers in the ground, and your Sims can fight them to obtain free eggs.

9. Get In the Spirit of Gift Giving.

Gift-giving is another new feature introduced in this expansion pack. Your Sims can now give gifts to other Sims using the items from their inventory, or they can give a wad of cash. The reactions to receiving gifts differ, depending on the relationship of your Sims to the recipient. Some Sims will adamantly reject gifts.

10. Change Settings As You Wish.

seasons 1

In the Game Options, under Environment, you can modify settings for Seasons. You can choose how many days you want each season to last. The choices are 7 days, 14 days, or 28 days. When all four seasons have been completed, the current calendar year for your Sims ends (more about this system below). You can also play with the rain and snow settings.
