New Features in Sims 4: Realm of Magic

As always, we are expecting nice new things to come along when we get a new game pack. Game packs do not offer new features as much as expansion packs do, but let us tell you, this one exceeded our expectations! There are a lot of new traits, items, gameplay tweaks, and even a whole new world for us Simmers to see. This is what we are in for with this addition to the game:

1. Sims Can Become Spellcasters.

Spellcasters are a new occult life state introduced in the Sims 4: Realm of Magic. They are very much like the witches from The Sims 3: Supernatural. Spellcasters can wield magic by learning and casting spells, which are categorized into Practical Magic, Untamed Magic, and Mischief Magic. While they build magical power and skills, they can climb through the following Spellcaster Ranks:

  • Apprentice
  • Neophyte
  • Acolyte
  • Adept
  • Master
  • Virtuoso

2. Glimmerbrook Awaits Them.

Through The Sims 4: Realm of Magic, we have a whole new world to explore—Glimmerbrook. It’s a dark, spooky world that looks tiny, yet truly captivating. Here, our Sims can visit a mysterious portal that can take them to The Magic Realm, a place filled with witches and warlocks and a lot of magic. This is also where our Sims can meet other Spellcasters and visit a shop filled with spellbooks, magic wands, and brooms.

3. They Can Learn To Create Potions.

Potion-making is another major aspect of being a Spellcaster, apart from learning and casting spells. Through the skill of Alchemy (first introduced in The Sims 3: Supernatural and reintroduced in The Sims 4: Supernatural), our Sims can learn over 16 potions, which they can practice crafting on the cauldron. Ingredients for the potions vary, ranging from plants, fishes, frogs, fruits, vegetables, crystals, and more. Once our Sims get better at this, they can make Sims fall in love, increase skill gains, prevent death, and even revive Sims who have faced death! The possibilities are endless in potion-making.

4. Sims Can Be Mentored By The Sages.

There are six sages in the game, who can guide our spellcasters in their journey of learning and taming their magical skills. The current ones, who specialize in their respective fields, are L. Faba (Mischief Magic), Morgyn Ember (Untamed Magic), and Simeon Silversweater (Practical Magic). The former sages who precede these three are Keisha Hughes, Tess Dryer, and Ethren Reyes. If our Sims need to master particular magical abilities or spells, they can turn to the current sages to ask for help. The sages will teach them magic, duel with them, or provide them with information about the potion ingredients that they need.

5. They Can Get Familiars.

Familiars are probably one of our favorite features of The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. Once our Sims have become spellcasters, they can link themselves to a particular familiar. Familiars can be fairies, owls, skulls, dragons, or even our Sims’ pets (if The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs is installed). They are quite useful to our spellcasting Sims, aiding them from magical duels, protecting them from death, and more. Remember the Harry Potter movies, where the wizards were linked to owls and cats? Well, it’s just like that, but in The Sims 4!

6. There Are New Clothes, Brooms, Wands, And More!

If we want to make the rooms of our Sims look more mysterious or spooky, or if we want to look like the best spellcaster in The Sims 4 world, we are in luck, because the game pack is chock full of new CAS items, and Build Mode objects. Most of these new additions might look a bit weird at first, especially since they have occult themes, but the attention to detail in these newly crafted items is mind-blowing. Plus, as we have mentioned earlier, there is a myriad of cauldrons, magic brooms, spellbooks, and wands to choose from. These magical objects will certainly make our Sims’ lives a little more interesting than usual.

7. Sims Can Have New Traits and Aspirations.

When Sims are born from parents who are spellcasters, they automatically become one themselves. Depending on their family tree, they can come from either a weak, a strong, or an ancient bloodline, which is one of the many fascinating additions to the game. Moreover, there are two new aspirations introduced in The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. These are Spellcraft & Sorcery, and Purveyor of Potions, both of which are certainly rewarding when fully accomplished.

How To Prevent Curses in The Realm Of Magic?

egva

Along with the wonderful life of a spellcaster, is the possibility to become cursed at any time. When losing magic duels, having overcharge failures, reaching maximum charges, and more, our spellcasting Sims can be inflicted with powerful curses. All in all, there are 9 curses that we do not want our Sims to ever have. But since these are inevitable, our Sims have to be careful. Check out our guide here to reverse or avoid curses in the game.

Closing Thoughts: Weave Magic In The Game!

If we only get one chance to choose a game pack for The Sims 4, we would pick The Sims 4: Realm of Magic in a heartbeat. Filled with both magic and mayhem, this game pack infuses plenty of interesting additions to our otherwise vanilla gameplay. The fact that our Sims can travel to The Magic Realm and become competent Spellcasters guided by their familiars, wands, and brooms, is such a breathtaking aspect that we’re still wrapping our heads around. All in all, we just really love this game pack. Hope we hear your thoughts below, too! Happy simming, Simmers!
