Who needs stairs when you can send your sims to new heights with elevator mods?
One of the many features that long-term players of The Sims franchise miss from older games is the use of functional elevators. City Living comes with elevators that can be accessed from the Buy catalog but unless you are building in one of the penthouse lots, they are completely useless. You also only have the option of placing one elevator per lot, so you can’t even use them as a decorative element across more than one floor.
We demand elevators, darn it! Whether your sim is disabled, lives in a custom-built apartment, or they want to add a secret lair to their basement, elevators are a convenient and low-footprint way to let them traverse between floors without needing to install space-hogging stairs. Plus, most of them are Toddler & pet friendly unlike the ladders that we have in-game, which are currently our only alternative to staircases.
Raise Your Builds With Elevator Mods
We have gathered a selection of functional elevator mods for use in your Sims 4 builds. The great thing about these mods is that once an elevator is installed on the lot your sims will use it autonomously, and there shouldn’t be any restrictions for use by Pets and younger sims.
Some of these mods use tuning from certain DLC so be sure to read the description and in no time, your sims will be hopping from floor to floor with ease!

Working Elevators Everywhere
LittleMsSam took the elevators from City Living (required) & applied the teleportation tuning that came with Jungle Adventures (required) to make functional elevators for use in any build. Sims will approach the elevator and then teleport out of another elevator closest to their destination. You can have up to 10 elevators on your lot with this mod.
This is the ultimate Base Game elevator mod, requiring no DLC and being super easy to use. There are 2 versions of the elevators to choose from to make it as hands-on or hands-off as you’d like. The basic shell style looks like a City Living elevator with the shaft attached; your sim will approach the elevator and the fade out, teleporting & fading back in nearby the elevator on whatever floor they’ve traveled to.
With the animated door style the doors will open allowing your sim to step inside before being transported to the correct floor. Using this version allows you to make your elevator shafts look exactly how you want them, however we did find a bug where the doors bleed through the wall when playing the opening animation.
Add elevators in a myriad of design styles to your builds with this collection! You get some modern elevators, a standard classic design, and even an old-fashioned birdcage elevator to choose from. In addition there are floors & walls that coordinate with the various elevators, allowing you to match your hallways and elevator shafts.
Time to get futuristic with it! We’ve got a collection of 3 elevators as part of this set, two of which are high-tech glass and the third being decrepit and covered in graffiti. They’re a great way to add atmosphere to your builds whether it’s a new sci-fi dance club or a run-down apartment building.
To get the elevators working with this mod there is a bit of a learning curve, but TheSimmer40 has a helpful tutorial on the download page. Essentially it uses the mechanic from the Realm of Magic (required) teleportation portals and pairs them up with animated elevator doors, so you can create from-scratch elevators. With this mod you can have up to 3 separate elevator units so you can place multiple around your build(s) as needed and they should be usable by all ages & species.
TheSimmer40 has also added newer elevator doors for use with the mod, but they require the respective pack(s) for wherever the original elevator mesh is from. You will need City Living, Discover University, and/or Eco Lifestyle to get access to the elevator doors.
This is a selection of nearly 40 recolors for the City Living (required) elevators. Unfortunately they are bound to the same rules & functionality as the vanilla elevators, but it’s a nice option for an Art Deco or 1920’s themed Penthouse build.
Sims shouldn’t be bound to long & exhausting staircases in order to travel between floors, especially if they’re not able-bodied and/or traveling through a very large space. Ladders give us an alternative but are limited in who can traverse them, which prevents them from being a viable option in many cases. And besides, ladders don’t have the “wow” factor that a nice lift does. With elevator mods you can give your sims a stylish, practical, and useful option for traveling between floors when a staircase just won’t cut it. Do you plan on using elevators in your builds now? Which elevator mod is your favorite? Let us know in the comments. Have fun with these mods and happy simming!
