The Sims 4 Lighting Mod

The Past and the Present

The Sims 4 has been released in September 2014! For some it might not seem like that many years ago, but for the gaming world which grows and advances with rapid speed, it’s nearly an eternity away. If we just look at some of the newest titles, like Ghost of Tsushima or Red Dead Redemption 2, we can quickly see the obvious difference in looks between them and The Sims 4.

What have changed in these couple of years are some major improvements in technology, together with the deeper understanding of creating real life like video games on the side of the developers.

Now, The Sims 4 has never been a game that has heavily relied on its graphics. But for a game that takes simulating the real world as its distinguishing characteristic, why shouldn’t it? It would surely be an astounding transformation to see your Sims in highly developed resolution, with detailed facial expressions and smooth physical actions!

But, while we are a long way away from the future, we can in other ways influence the appearance of our beloved game. To enhance the experience, a lot of free creators have made better versions of the base game’s looks, including the lighting! Here is one such mod full of beautiful scenery!

Astral Lights Mod: an Overview

So, what is the lightning mod? What does it do?

Well, the Astral Lights lightning mod is an awesome way to increase the quality of your graphics. Don’t worry, it won’t take too much of your computer’s power to run itself, but just enough to transform the skies of The Sims 4 worlds into ones straight from a landscape! The change is mostly on the “surface”, so you won’t experience lags and delays during your playtime.

We are talking here about beautiful sunsets, spread heavenly behind the walls of your household; a perfect pattern of white clouds scattered during the spring season; nightly auroras that could take anyone’s breath away and star-filled sky every night if you just wished so!

Astral Lights is something that many simmers can’t even start the game without! You don’t truly know just how differently it makes you feel while you’re playing – but we can promise that you will not want to exit the game when you see all those beautiful colors of nature. The palette is that of an artist and the amazing creator deserves all the praises of the Sims 4 community!

And if you feel the same way with the base look of The Sims 4, as if something is missing, and you want to try this lighting mod, then here is how to install it!

How to Install the Astral Lights Mod

The installation of this mod requires a bit of attention, but it is not at all problematic. If you’re having difficulties on your own, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Step 1: After you download the mod, you’ll want to extract it (using WinRAR or similar program) in a new folder, not directly into the game.
  2. Step 2: Open up the destination where your Sims 4 game is installed. For most users it will be in C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 4/. If it’s not, then you might have to search or remember where you have installed the game.
  3. Step 3: From the newly unzipped folder, in the subfolder called Basegame World, copy all the files and then paste them into C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 4/Data/Shared/Worlds/Area. Replace the files if you’re asked to do so.
  4. Step 4: Continue with the same procedure with the rest of the worlds. For example, for Forgotten Hollow, open the subfolder and copy the file. The name of the file will tell you where you will need to paste it in your Sims 4 installation folder, and in this case it’s GP04 which stands the vampire pack. So, the correct directory is C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 4/GP04/ Worlds/Area. And that’s all!

Additional Downloads

At https://brntwaffles.tumblr.com/, which is the official place of the mod, you can make additional downloads alongside the main one. These consist of some special looks like auroras, fluffy clouds and stars in different colors. They serve to furthermore increase the visuals of the game, so if you feel like you need them all, you can totally get them!

More graphic mods are available here. Stay tuned for news and updates. Adieu!
