Sims have finally found their way to the Nintendo Switch—the MySims Cozy Bundle releases on November 19!
You know those cute little Funko-esque characters your sims can collect in The Sims 4? They’re called MySims collectibles and they originate from a little Sims spinoff series called—you guessed it—MySims.
MySims released in 2007 and subsequently had 6 spin-offs over the next 3 years; there were even rumors at one point of an animated series and/or movie coming out based on the title though it never came to fruition. The original game was one of the best-selling titles for the Nintendo DS and although most of its followups didn’t do as well, the series is looked back on fondly by gamers today.
A Brief Outline Of The MySims Games
Each of the MySims releases followed a different style of gameplay and shared parallels with other familiar games:
MySims
The original MySims game is a mix of The Sims character creation, Sim City and Animal Crossing style gameplay, and a Minecraft-esque build system released on Nintendo Wii and DS. Your sim character moves to a lonely little town and through development and upgrades of the area, attracts more residents to continue helping it grow and thrive.
MySims Kingdom
MySims Kingdom plays similarly to its predecessor, only this time your character is in medieval times and they are tasked with repairing a kingdom instead of a town. Some of the gameplay aspects are streamlined more from the previous title, and players are given several islands to develop instead of a single area.
MySims Party
MySims Party takes its gameplay ideas from the similarly-titled Mario Party, but with a twist. Up to 4 players compete in a multitude of minigames to earn unlocks which further expand and develop the town. Like the prior 2 games, the main goal is to attract new residents to the area as the player(s) improve it.
MySims Racing
MySims Racing is a go kart racer and while similar to Mario Kart, it also touts a story mode as part of the title. The customization options for characters and cars along with the fun visuals are favorite features among players. Overall the title shared similar critical scores as MySims Party.
MySims Agents
MySims Agents has different gameplay depending on if you have the DS or Wii version. The Wii version has the player working as a Junior Agent for the Sim Protection Agency, and they solve cases by playing a series of detective-based minigames while climbing the ranks to Special Agent. In the DS version you play as an Undercover Agent tracking a thief who is plotting to steal the town’s secret treasure, using minigames and other content to narrow down their whereabouts.
MySims Sky Heroes
MySims Sky Heroes sees the player starting out as a rookie pilot leading a resistance against a character called Morcubus (who is also the antagonist of the Wii version of Agents). Planes can be upgraded over time and those upgrades are earned through gameplay, which can be experienced in solo or multiplayer.
MySims Puzzle Party
MySims Puzzle Party is a mobile-only game released in South Korea that consists of 6 puzzle games and a range of difficulty levels to play them with. This is the final release of the MySims series and as it was mobile-only from nearly 15 years ago, it’s currently considered “lost media.”
MySims Is Coming To Nintendo Switch!
Recently there have been whispers that MySims was making a return, and on August 27 as part of the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation it was announced that MySims and MySims Kingdom would be coming to Nintendo DS in November. The release is called the MySims: Cozy Bundle and includes both games (they cannot be purchased individually).
Old Friends And New Improvements
One big question in players’ minds regarding the Cozy Bundle is “which version are we getting?” As the Nintendo Wii and DS had vastly different capabilities, the version of MySims games they received were notably different from one another. It’s easiest to assume that the Wii version is the one that will be ported over as it’s the more advanced; one thing’s for sure though and it’s that the graphics are getting a major upgrade.
Several characters are returning that you may be familiar with as their figures are part of the Sims 4‘s collectibles, which include Chef Gino and DJ Candy. Other characters that were previously PC-exclusive are rumored to be included, which consist of Alexa Lexington, Cedella, Natalia Roshmonov, Tad “Flipper” McCaffrey, Terry Toymender, and Wendalyn. Also the previously PC-exclusive Gardens location is rumored to be included (though not with its multiplayer aspects).
Conclusion: Pre-Order the MySims Cozy Bundle Today!
The MySims Cozy Bundle is available for pre-order now at a cost of $39.99USD, and it will formally be released on November 19. If you loved playing the MySims games back in the late aughts get ready for a nostalgia trip, and if you’ve never played before you can look forward to a healthy dose of “retro” gaming!
