Today we got to spend an hour with EA learning all about the upcoming Pack. Here’s a summary of what happened during The Sims 4 Lovestruck Developer Livestream!
Earlier today The Sims’ Youtube channel held a Lovestruck Developer Livestream that covered various aspects of the upcoming Expansion Pack. We got a look at new CAS stuff, explored some of the world, and got our first taste of the new gameplay. Here’s the highlights!
Exciting Features Coming To The Base Game
Before we get down and dirty with upcoming Pack-exclusive content, we’re happy to share news about features that every player will benefit from. We promise, you’re going to love it!
Eyelashes!
Finally, your sims can have eyelashes that look like eyelashes! Found in the Makeup section, all players will soon have 2 sets of lashes they can apply to their sims with an additional 2 more dramatic looks coming with the Expansion Pack.
Copy Details Across Multiple Outfits
CAS gets a new button next to the menu that lets players quickly apply makeup and accessories across multiple outfits. Pick and choose when your sim is rocking those falsies, when they wear their glasses, do up their makeup, etc. What a time saver!
Romantic Boundaries
Players can now decide what kind of Romantic Boundaries each individual sim has, changing them to match the kind of romance that sim is looking for. Fully committed sims can be set to feel jealousy whenever their partner sends affection elsewhere, while polyamorous sims and those in non-conventional relationships will have more flexibility in the behaviors they’ll tolerate from their partners. You can also choose whether a sim is open to discussing those boundaries and potentially changing them.
By default all existing sims will be set with “Yes” as the answer for all boundary options as to not interrupt the games you’re currently playing, but newly created sims will have various romantic boundaries and you can change them in CAS any time.
Gender-Neutral Terminology For Relationships & Romance
The Lovestruck Developer Livestream shared exciting news that relationship terms will be updated to more gender-neutral wording, and a new title option is available for sims in a relationship who are not engaged or married.
- “Husband” and “Wife” will become “Spouse”
- “Fiancé” and “Fiancée” will become “Engaged”
- A new option for sims in a relationship who haven’t committed to marriage is called “Partner”
Curved Swimming Pools
You read that right—we’re finally getting curve-edged pools. Now you can really make those heart shaped swimming pools!
New Content – CAS, Buy/Build
There is quite a variety of new and interesting content that you can use to adorn your sims and their spaces. We didn’t get to see every new piece coming to CAS during the Lovestruck Developer Livestream, but we got a good look at a few items along with a more detailed view of upcoming Buy/Build themes.
Silly & Sexy Outfits
From classy coordinated pieces to silly costumes, there’s a lot coming to CAS with this pack. Many of the more outlandish looks will also be available through the Adult Costume Box object.
Aspirations, Traits, Turn Ons
We’ve already gone into more detail about the upcoming Traits and Aspirations in a previous post, but today we also got a look at the new romance options in the Preferences menu. Turn Ons and Turn Offs include physical aspects like a sim’s hair color, outfit color, and how they dress as well as parts of their personality such as characteristics, hobbies, and life experiences, and a new element called Romance Styles.
Romance Styles are how your sim likes to give and receive love. Some sims might enjoy public displays of affection, romantic gestures, and giving gifts. Other sims might not. It’s up to you to determine how your sim loves to love, and to help them find partners with a Romance Style that meshes well with theirs.
Buy/Build Objects In A Range Of Styles & Functions
From initial trailers we thought most of the Buy/Build content coming with the EP would fit within one of a few overarching styles, but there seems to be more variety than we first expected as revealed during the Lovestruck Developer Livestream.
First off, there’s lots of content for sprucing up your gyms, with plenty of neon accents that give a great 80’s vibe. A particular standout is the new shower stuff, with a modular sliding door for building custom sized showers and a tile wall decal that doubles as a backsplash for over stoves. There’s a lot of “dive bar” stuff with many new colorful graffiti options and a small closet that can be used for…um…quality time, and a selection of bar pieces that have a lovely art deco style including a 1-tile bar (which probably looks great with the pieces from the Cozy Bistro Kit)!
Many beautiful paintings are coming along with some lovely decor pieces, lots of neon wall decals, a new party game for up to 6 sims (with family friendly and adults only options), and a gorgeous guitar. With this game taking place in a Mexican-inspired area, EA tapped employees and creators who have lived in or are from Mexico to help give things a sense of authenticity.
Axolotls are a new critter which can be found all over the world, and collected/bred like frogs. Plus, when you select the axolotl tank in Buy mode, these fun little surprise faces will pop up!
New beds include the return of the infamous Heart Bed—and it vibrates! Sims may get different Moodlets if the bed is vibrating, which adds another interesting element to those romantic cuddle sessions. There are also 2 canopies that can be snapped to the beds (and most other vanilla beds too).
We got a good look at windows, doors, walls, and floors coming with Lovestruck, including a few extra pieces to even further personalize builds. These include a cage shelf that can go over windows for some extra space to display plants or small decor items, and a special trim piece that’s designed to blend in with one of the doors for a more stately appearance.
The last thing we got a peek at for Buy/Build mode are the Career Rewards available from the new Romance Consultant Career. They’re giving major The Sims 2: Hot Date vibes.
Gameplay And A Look At Ciudad Enamorada
The new world of Ciudad Enamorada is full of details to fall in love with.
Ciudad Enamorada comes with 13 lots broken up into 3 neighborhoods, the suburban Vista Hermosa, the uptown area of Nuevo Corazón, and Plaza Mariposa which is the city square. “Mariposa” means “butterfly” in Spanish, and it’s a common theme throughout the new Pack.
Beautiful Murals & Mexican Builds
Mexican influences live all over Ciudad Enamorada, with contributions from several creatives.
There are two murals that make up large focal points in Ciudad Enamorada which were designed by artist Miguel Mejía, also known as neuzz.
This lots in this Expansion pack were built by Mexican builders including Fritosaurio, shiki, and Rustic Sims. We were correct in our previous posts about the stone wall sculpture, the flower shop, and the motel all being interactive pieces dotted throughout the world.
New Ways To Woo And Play
The Lovestruck Developer Livestream went into a lot of details about how the new Dating and Romance systems work, and we tagged along with a sim who went on a date with one of their Cupid’s Corner matches (spoiler alert: it went well). There are so many new ways to interact with sims you’re romantically interested in and Dates have their own autonomy when it comes to the Event. Your sim is no longer the only one who can end a bad date early or take things back to their place if the sparks are flying!
