The Sims 4: For Rent made a big splash in our Sims 4 gaming last December 2023 when it was launched. The Southeast Asian-inspired expansion pack not only introduced the culturally rich world of Tomarang and the property ownership and renting systems, but it also added some new tweaks that will forever change the lives of our Sims. With The Sims 4: For Rent, it is now possible to learn more about your Sims’ neighbors by doing several shady acts!

What Are The New Ways to Learn About Neighbors in The Sims 4?

There are several new ways that your Sims can gather information about their neighbors in the game. According to the game developers of The Sims 4, it should be noted that your Sims’ accomplishment of these new features is deemed different from burglarizing, a feature that has also been introduced in the earlier Sims games. Well, to enlighten you further, we’ll discuss these processes one by one!

Breaking In

It is now possible for your Sims to break into the households of other Sims, by physically forcing their entry through the door. If they can successfully break in, they will have a timed event called “breaking and entering”, wherein they can use the amenities of the house they have trespassed. They could lie down on the couch, watch TV, cook meals, take a shower, and so on. They could also stay as long as they want to, even if the owners of the house have already set foot in their residence.

Snooping For Secrets

One of the best ways to learn about neighbors is to snoop for their secrets. Your Sims can start snooping by rummaging through the personal belongings or the household items of other Sims, such as the:

• Mailbox
• Trashcan
• Bed
• Wardrobe
• School Bag
• Bookshelves

The easiest way to snoop around is to break inside a house first, which will allow your Sims plenty of opportunities to find the stated items. Once their snooping has been successful, hidden secrets of specific Sims will be revealed through the Secrets tab.

Eavesdropping

If they do not want to break in and start snooping, your Sims can still be able to find juicy information from their neighbors, through the process of eavesdropping.

• Eavesdropping through the door – When a certain neighbor is at home, your Sims can stand by this Sim’s doorway and put their ears near the door to learn their secrets.
• Eavesdropping on a conversation – If your Sim finds any other Sims talking, they can also choose to eavesdrop on their conversation.

What to Do After Knowing Secrets

Secrets in The Sims 4 are not to be taken lightly! Once your Sim is able to capture secret tidbits about the lives of other Sims, they can then do these following interactions:

• Confront About Secret – Your Sims can inform other Sims about the secrets that they have found out about them. The Sims with secrets will feel surprised about the discovery.
• Keep Secret – Are your Sims willing to keep secrets? They can offer to keep their mouths shut, just to make things light and let the Sims with secrets feel at ease.
• Blackmail – If your Sims are feeling mischievous, they can use their newfound knowledge of secrets to blackmail Sims. By doing so, they will be able to earn 100 simoleons. Ooh!

Combining with Nosy and Kleptomaniac Traits

You can equip your Sims with the Nosy and Kleptomaiac traits to make them an ultimately mischievous neighbor. The Nosy trait will allow them to discover secrets more easily, while the Kleptomaniac trait will allow them to sweep in objects while breaking inside a house—making them follow the steps of a true blue Sim burglar.

Some Secrets We’ve Discovered

There are plenty of secrets introduced in The Sims 4: For Rent, ranging from adorable to full-blown trippy, and here are just a few of what we have encountered in the game!

1. Oh Baby, A Challenge

Sims with the Oh Baby, A Challenge! secret wants to create a large family by having babies with different partners! They believe that it is possible to raise good children by becoming a parent who can juggle parental responsibilities well. And really, who can stop them?

2. Pool Of Terror

The Pool of Terror secret would defnitely make any Simmer guilty! Apparently, Sims who harbor this juicy secret have recurring nightmares about swimming in a pool with a ladder that always disappears just when they are about to exit. The dream makes them think that they will keep swimming laps in the pool while feeling hungry and tired, forever. Eep!

3. Moo-hoo!

Sims with the Moo-hoo secret have a tremendous fear—that the world will know about their precious but monstrous Cowplant that they sent to a secret dwelling. Back in the day, the said Cowplant was able to terrorize by consuming plenty of Sims during nightly feedings!

4. Secret Llamas

The Secret Llamas is probably our favorite in The Sims 4. Sims who keep this little adorable secret have developed certain hate towards authorities at a young age, so they coped by infusing all kinds of llamas in every art work they made when they were young!

5. Fruitcake Fumble

Fruitcake Fumble is another super cute secret harbored by our Sims! Because they were just trying to be nice, Sims who have this secret baked a fruitcake as a welcome present for a neighbor, and it turned out to be really…salty. Yup! They accidentally used salt instead of sugar in crafting the yummy cake! The good intentions were pretty much there, though.

6. Coffee Connoisseur

Coffee Connoisseur secret-keping Sims have repeatedly and purposefully taken the coffee orders of someone else in a coffee shop! Because of these intentional mistakes, they have now found themselves living in that certain someone’s name and entire persona. Uh-oh. Hoping they can break free!

Consequences Of These New Features

Experiencing all these new features in The Sims 4 is a whole lot of fun, and it will definitely make your gameplay thrilling, what with all these tricky situations you’ll be putting your Sims in. However, much like in real life, these risky Sims actions equate to consequences! Sims that have been caught breaking in, eavesdropping, or snooping for secrets, will usually have a negative relationship with other Sims.
