The Sims team is asking for Sims 4 autonomy feedback from players, and developers are already confirming gameplay fixes and improvements coming soon.

The Sims Team Wants Your Sims 4 Autonomy Feedback
The Sims team is once again reaching out to the community, asking players to share their Sims 4 autonomy feedback to help guide future gameplay improvements. The discussion recently appeared on the official community Discord, where players were invited to talk about the Sim behaviors that either enhance their storytelling or completely ruin the moment.
If you have ever watched your Sim abandon a task to grab a glass of water or randomly check their phone during an important conversation, you are not alone. The developers are actively gathering feedback about these behaviors so they can improve how Sims act on their own.
According to the message posted in the community channel, the team wants to understand what behaviors feel frustrating, what actions Sims fail to complete, and even which strange quirks players secretly enjoy.

Sims 4 Autonomy Feedback Is Already Influencing Updates
Interestingly, this feedback is not just being collected for future ideas. Some of it has already helped shape upcoming patches.
Morgan, a producer for The Sims 4, confirmed that previous community feedback directly influenced the fixes listed in the latest Laundry List update. That means the team is actively reviewing player reports and using them to refine Sim autonomy.
Players were asked to share several types of feedback, including behaviors that break immersion, actions Sims constantly fail to complete, and interactions that players wish would happen autonomously.
The developers also made it clear that they are trying to strike a balance. While some autonomy behaviors can feel buggy, others are strange little quirks that the community enjoys. The team wants to avoid accidentally removing the fun ones.
A Fix for Sims Grabbing Endless Glasses of Water
One of the most talked about issues in the discussion involved Sims constantly grabbing glasses of water.
A player jokingly asked why Sims keep doing this when they do not even have a thirst need. It often leads to a lower bladder need and sometimes even accidents.
According to Morgan, the behavior technically comes from a hidden system that players never see. However, because it feels disruptive to gameplay, the team confirmed they are planning to temporarily disable it in an upcoming patch.
For many players, that means fewer random trips to the sink and more Sims actually finishing the tasks you give them.

Sims Checking Their Phones Mid Conversation
Another common frustration involves Sims pulling out their phones in the middle of conversations.
Players mentioned how immersion-breaking it feels when a Sim suddenly stops talking to check their phone instead of continuing a social interaction. The good news is that this issue is already being addressed in the next update.
The upcoming patch will introduce a cooldown system. If a Sim uses their phone autonomously, they will not feel the urge to do it again for six Sim hours.
There are a few exceptions though. Teen Sims, Sims who like phones, and non-active household Sims will behave differently. Meanwhile, Sims who dislike phones will never use them autonomously at all.

Interrupting NPC Sims Are Getting a Fix
Another major annoyance players mentioned is NPC Sims constantly interrupting conversations, especially during dates.
Anyone who has played a romantic storyline in the game knows the moment. Your Sims are having a perfect flirty conversation, and suddenly a random Sim jumps into the interaction and ruins the mood.
According to the developer responding in the thread, improvements for this behavior are already coming in the March update. The change should significantly reduce how often random Sims interrupt private conversations.

More Autonomy Improvements Are Coming
Several other autonomy concerns were also discussed in the thread.
Players mentioned Sims obsessively dancing, visitors flooding their homes asking for help, and NPC Sims showing up uninvited and using household objects. Some even reported Sims quitting tasks like writing a book right before finishing it.
The development team confirmed that autonomy behavior is something they are actively focusing on improving. Many of these reports help them identify bugs and understand which behaviors feel the most disruptive to players.
At the same time, the team is careful not to remove behaviors that players enjoy, especially the silly and unpredictable moments that make The Sims feel alive.

Final Thoughts
It is always great to see the developers actively talking with the community, and this new feedback thread shows how much player voices matter when it comes to shaping the game.
Many of the issues discussed are already getting fixes in the upcoming March update, and the team is clearly continuing to refine how Sims behave on their own. If you are curious about the fixes already confirmed for the next patch, be sure to check out our coverage of the Sims 4 Laundry List, since many of the autonomy improvements mentioned here are directly connected to those updates.
If you have strong opinions about autonomy, now is a good time to share your thoughts. Your feedback might help shape the next round of improvements, so keep an eye on upcoming updates and patch notes as the team continues improving Sim behavior.
