Farewell to The Sims Mobile

It’s a moment many in the mobile-gaming community were anticipating but nevertheless feel bittersweet, The Sims Mobile will officially shut down, meaning the game will no longer be playable.

The Sims Mobile

EA announced the final update for The Sims Mobile on October 19, 2025.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening, why it matters, and what you as a player can do during these final months.

What’s happening & key dates

  • October 20, 2025 – Final update goes live. From this date forward, in-app purchases and spending real money in TSM will be disabled. However, any existing in-game currencies (SimCash, Simoleons, Tickets) remain usable until the shutdown.
Also introduced: unlimited energy for all players — meaning you can start as many actions as you like.
  • October 21, 2025 – The game will be delisted from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store (at 1:30 PM UTC). It will no longer be available for new downloads, though players who already have it installed (or previously downloaded it) can still access it via their library.
  • January 6, 2026 – Two weeks before shutdown: Every Build Mode & Create-A-Sim (CAS) item will unlock for all players, regardless of level or quest status. Virtually everything becomes available.
  • January 20, 2026 at 1:59 PM UTC – Servers shut down. The game will no longer be playable. Because game progress is stored on EA’s servers, once they’re offline, you will not be able to load your saves.

What this means for players

For longtime players of The Sims Mobile, the news comes with mixed emotions. On one hand:

  • Congrats! The devs are essentially giving you free reign over the game during its final run: unlimited energy, unlocks, events.
  • On the other hand: there’s a hard stop. This version will cease to exist in early 2026.

Here are some practical things to keep in mind:

  • If you have in-game currency left (SimCash, etc.), you’ll want to use it before January 6, 2026 — after all Build/CAS items unlock freely, there’s less reward to spending.
  • Even though the game is delisted from stores after October 21, you can still play if you already have it installed. But for new players it will not be available.
  • After January 20, 2026 — there is no fallback offline mode or ability to preserve your progress. It’s essentially the end of the road for TSM.
  • The included events between now and shutdown are themed as a “final chapter” — things like Eerie Autumn, Cozy Home, Wumple’s Wishlist quests, and more.

Why is this happening?

The announcement didn’t deeply dive into why TSM is shutting down, but there are some broad take-aways from industry commentary and the dev messaging:

  • The Sims franchise is shifting focus. The core game, The Sims 4, continues to be supported. At the same time, speculation around the upcoming titled codename Project Rene suggests EA/Maxis are preparing something more cross-platform or next-gen.
  • Mobile live-service games have finite lifespans, especially when server costs, player base, and development priorities shift. This seems to be the practical reality here.
  • For players, it may feel like the end of one era. But for the franchise, this frees resources to move into new experiences.

A “Final Chapter” … What to enjoy now

Since the devs are embracing this as the “final update,” there’s a kind of celebratory tone. Here are things you can aim to do in the coming months:

  • Dive into the unlimited energy system: You won’t be held back by energy regen, so complete large builds, finish long actions, experiment.
  • Unlock everything: After January 6, 2026, all Build Mode and CAS items are unlocked — this is the time to create your “dream home” or perfect Sim with zero restrictions.
  • Play through the themed events: The roadmap includes many final events (as listed in the announcement) that wrap up TSM’s lifecycle with some flair.
  • Capture memories: If you’ve been playing for a long time, this is a good chance to take screenshots, share your builds, perhaps commemorate the experience with the community.
  • Decide how much you want to invest: With shutdown inevitable, regular long-term goals (chasing level tokens, micro-transactions, long-haul meta) lose some of their value. Focus on enjoyment now.
