eco footprint in sims 4
Eco footprints were a new feature introduced in the Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle expansion pack in 2020. This brought up environmental issues to tackle, introduced solar panels, sustainability, and pollution to help our Sims make a meaningful change. There are three eco footprints: green, neutral, and industrial. All three can be managed by changing your Sims’ lifestyles and taking on initiatives in your neighborhoods.
Progress is always gradual, and needs some investment. So if you want to simplify your gameplay, eco footprint cheats can be your go-to solution.

When to play with eco footprint cheats?
Every neighborhood has a different footprint. On top of that, this feature is like seasons, so you can turn it on and off in Options Menu (Game Options> Eco Lifestyle> Enable/Disable Eco Footprint). However, this option will also turn off the impact of neighborhood action plans and game objects, which can take the fun away.
On the other hand, if you were to play organically, you would have to spend extra time making changes to the environment. Sometimes you may just want one household or neighborhood to be dedicated to environmental change, but not others.
Eco footprint cheats will allow you to manage pollution levels in your town, without completely switching off the footprint feature. Even when you are focused on environmental change, cheats are a great way to speed up the process to your liking. Or, you can use them to maintain an industrial footprint for some extra drama and work, if that’s what you are aiming for!
how to activate cheats?
The first step to using any eco footprint cheat is to enable cheating! To do that, open the cheat console, type in testingcheats true, and press Enter. To open the dialog box, use these commands:
- On PC: CTRL + SHIFT + C
- On Playstation: R1 + R2 + L1 + L2
- On Mac: CMD + SHIFT + C
- On Xbox: LT + LT + LB + RB
If you’ve done it successfully, you’ll get a message that cheats are enabled, and you are ready to proceed with a desired eco footprint cheat! Every time you want to type in a new cheat, use the same controls to open and close the dialog tab, type the cheat, and press Enter.
changing the eco footprint with cheats
Eco footprint cheats are a way to go if you want to focus on developing a storyline that is not focused on the footprint, but you’d still like to have control over pollution levels.
Eco_Footprint.Set_Eco_Footprint_State is a universal cheat base applicable for all three eco footprints. Every footprint has a number you will be typing at the end of this cheat: green (0), neutral (1), and industrial (2).
So, for instance, if you want to cheat to make eco footprint green, all you need to do is open the dialog box, and type Eco_Footprint.Set_Eco_Footprint_State 0, then press Enter. Or, in case you want to increase the level of pollution, type 2, or 1 instead of 0 to neutralize it.
You can use the change eco footprint cheat anytime you like to switch from one footprint to another to your liking. The chat is applicable for all Sims 4 residential worlds with an eco footprint option turned on.

Change neighborhood action plans with cheats
Now if you love changing footprints the natural way, but need just a little help to speed things up, cheats can also help you with that. One way to make improvements in the environment is by influencing the Neighborhood Action Plans and opting for change eco footprint cheat.
Once cheats are enabled with testingcheats true, you can gain full control over the Neighborhood Action Plan. To put a desired neighborhood action plan to work, go to the Public Voting Board in your neighborhood, click + Shift on it, and choose Enact Neighborhood Plan (Cheat). This will open up a list of all action plans, and allow you to choose the desired one!
If the current neighborhood action plan doesn’t suit you, you can also cancel it the same way. Just click + Shift on the voting board and choose Instant Repeal Neighborhood Action Plan (Cheat) to abandon the current plan.
Use the two options to control the action plans in your area any time you like.
change the purpose of community space with cheats
Another subtle way to use a cheat to make eco footprint green, and make a positive impact on the environment is to change the purpose of community spaces.
To change the purpose of the community space, go to the Public Voting Board, click + Shift on it, and select Instant Enact Community Space Project (Cheat). This will change the space into one that supports your eco footprint goals.
cheats for gaining influence points
If you want to use eco footprint cheats more subtly, you can affect the eco footprint by increasing your Sims’ influence points. The greater their influence is, the bigger the chance to impact the decisions of other Sims to make desired changes in the neighborhood.
To do that with cheats, once cheats are enabled, just go to the Voting Board, click + Shift on it, and opt for ”Give Sim Influence +15”. You can do the same by clicking on the mailbox.
conclusion
Balancing out the eco footprint is an incredible adventure, but likely not the adventure you want to do every time you play in a certain neighborhood. Cheats help you get a grip on the footprint without turning off the Eco Footprint feature entirely. This way, you can remain in control of your surroundings, and match the footprint to your current gameplay ideas and goals.
