With Outdoor Retreat being one of the first Game Packs that came out for The Sims 4, by now most simmers are familiar with the idea of camping even if they’ve never done it themselves. While camping can mean everything from staying in a motorhome on the beach to roughing it in the woods, there’s a particular type of camping we’re going to focus on today: the summer camp.
Summer camp is typically geared towards Children and Teens as an opportunity to get them out of the house and into nature, where they’ll learn new skills and have unique experiences. Some camps work as day programs where kids are dropped off for the morning/afternoon, while others are full-on getaways that might last multiple days or even weeks. Typically (but not always) these camps will take place in more wilderness-type areas and will include many outdoor activities. I myself spent some weeks at summer camp over the years where I got to experience things like swimming, boating, archery, crafting, and more.
Now it’s time to give this experience to our sims! We have a range of summer camp mods we’re going to share today with varying levels of involvement. You can send your sims to a summer camp lot and craft your own adventures, use an event mod to create unique camp experiences, or send them off-lot via rabbithole and let the game do all the work. No matter which way you want to play, your young sims are in for a super summer!

With over 30 different summer camp mods and CC to chose from, your campers are sure to have themselves a wonderful, memorable summer!
Summer Camps
This is a great and versatile rabbithole summer camp option for Child and Teen sims of any interest! Your characters can choose from one of 11 different camps to visit, and they have the option to go for the day or take a full week (camp will replace school when your sim is enrolled). Sims will gain skills based on the camp they attend and also might even bring home a nice buff or two. You can only send your sims to camp during the summer season and the cost will depend on the duration of their visit.
Seasons is the only DLC required for the mod to work, but you’ll need other DLCs and the Language Barriers Mod if you want the full scope of available camps.
Wanderlust Camping Tanks
If you’ve been trying to find the perfect uniform for your summer camp counselors, look no further than this tank top! Available in 12 swatches, this collection of tanks has simmified versions of several outdoor-oriented phrases, but it’s easy to pretend that they bear the name of your camp instead.

The baseball hats from Outdoor Retreat are almost perfect for being part of your camp counselor uniform. The only problem with them is that they are huge and tend to look ridiculous on most characters. This CC is an edit to said baseball hat, making it fit your sims’ heads much more reasonably.

Your campers need a backpack to haul their clothing and other items, and this is a good one for Teen sims. Converted from the game Life Is Strange 2, it’s got the perfect details for any sim heading into the great outdoors.

Camp counselors are responsible for making sure their charges have everything they need for a fun and safe camping experience. Sometimes this means throwing on a huge backpack to haul things your campers can’t, and sometimes it means putting on a waterproof jacket and handling things outside while your campers stay dry in their tents and cabins. With this CC, your sims are covered for any situation!

When away at summer camp it’s important that you have the right shoes. A good pair of hiking boots will help you navigate the uneven terrain of the wilderness, keep your feet dry, and protect them from things like insect bites and poisonous plants.

While summer camp is usually all about the activities, sometimes it’s nice to just sit around the fire and strum out a few camp songs. With this pose, your Teen sims and their favorite camp counselor can do just that.
Roasting marshmallows around a campfire is one of the best parts about camping if you ask me! With this pose pack you can create several vignettes of campers and counselors relaxing ’round the fire, with a few flirtier poses you can save for the staff (once the campers have gone to bed).

A nice little assortment of items perfect for furnishing your survivalist or summer camps. In this set you get snacks, water, portable cooking tools, plus lots of extras for hiking and foraging to help make your excursion a success.

This assortment of liberated decor items will allow your summer camp counselors to keep their supplies stocked and ready for anything the wilderness has to toss their way. Water, shelf-stable food, gasoline for a generator, rope, a flashlight, and more can be found in this set, allowing you to add more ambience to your summer camp builds.
Click here to download!Functional Binocular And Hand Telescope
Functioning like a standard telescope, your campers can use these objects to raise their Mental and Logic skills as they observe the world around them. Search for animals, watch the stars, or try to spy on the counselors’ cabins!
A cooler like this will be one of your best friends on a long fishing excursion. In addition to providing your sims with refreshing drinks to help sustain them, it stores any fish they catch thereby keeping them in excellent condition until they’re ready to be consumed or mounted. Plus, it doubles as a seat!
Click here to download!Functional Water Pump
Many summer camps are still off the grid in one capacity or another due to things like location, logistics, or just wanting a more low-tech environment for their campers to experience. With the functional water pump your campers can gather water for maintaining their hygiene, giving them a new appreciation for the modern convenience of indoor plumbing. There’s also built-in perks for these items if you have Eco Lifestyle.
Click here to download!Filthy Fabulous – Part 2
Although this collection is primarily meant for Rags-To-Riches type challenges there are a number of items in the collection that are also great for summer camps. Most obviously is the campfire, which provides warmth and a space to cook food. There’s a DIY shelter that might be useful for temporary weather difficulties while outdoors, and the walkie talkie prop is a great item for your camp counselors to utilize.
Click here to download!Medieval Fire Pit
Eating food that you cooked over a roaring campfire just hits different. This medieval style campfire takes a prop from Get Famous and turns it into a functional fire pit that your sims can use like any other in the game. Roast hot dogs, tell stories, or bust out the guitar for a camper sing-along. Now, who wants s’mores?
Click here to download!Snug As A Slug – *FUNCTIONAL* Sleeping Bag
You don’t need Get Together for your sims to get snoozing in a sleeping bag! This sleeping bag works for adults and kids alike and can be placed in your sims’ inventory so they can carry it with them on their wilderness hikes, able to settle down whenever they’re tired. Some of the animations are a little janky due to the sleeping bag being positioned on the ground, but there’s nothing that affects its function.
Click here to download!Filthy Fabulous Toilet
An off-the-grid bucket toilet for those times when nature calls and you’re not near working plumbing to answer it. It’s not the most gorgeous solution but it gets the job done while allowing your sims to take everything with them when they leave, which is an important tenet of being a good Outdoor Enthusiast.
Click here to download!Above Ground Pool
This sneaky swimming pool isn’t a swimming pool at all, but a hot tub in a clever disguise. It still makes for a great item to have if your sims’ local summer camp doesn’t have the luxury of being positioned along a river or somewhere stable enough for an in-ground swimming pool. The camp counselors sure won’t complain about it being there!
Sometimes you just gotta get out there and climb a tree! Active, adventurous, and nature-loving young sims can work on their Fitness or Motor Skills by learning to climb this tree, and if you have Growing Together there’s even a milestone attached!
Click here to download!Summer Camp Mini Kit
Building your own summer camp? Give your campers and extra rugged sleep with this fun summer camp bunk bed that features a rope ladder! The included bedding looks just like a sleeping bag, making things feel even more authentic.
If your sim is spending the night in the woods as part of a shorter camp experience or as an excursion during a long-term stay, these assignable tents will make sure everybody has a place to sleep without anybody being forgotten. The game seems them as single beds so one sim can be assigned per tent, making this a more viable option for a smaller group of campers.
If your little sims are eager for the summer camp experience but maybe not ready for the real thing, this precious camper set is a wonderful stepping stone! The camper functions as a playhouse and can be furnished with the included play kitchen (which is functional with additional mods), and they can relax by the roaring “fire” which doubles as a dollhouse! It’s wonderfully cozy and a great way to introduce your sims to the idea of camping without throwing them into the forest full-tilt.
