Hello Simmers! Tonight is the first night of the Jewish Festival of Lights, and we’re here to celebrate with our sims by sharing some lovely Hanukkah CC!
Hanukkah (also spelled “Chanukah”) is a Jewish holiday that goes all the way back to 164 B.C.E. and has deeply historical and religious roots, however it’s observed by both practicing and nonreligious Jews alike today. The simplified backstory is that it’s a celebration of ancient Jews re-taking a Temple from Syrian-Greek oppressors during the Maccabean Revolt. When the Jews returned to their Temple they only found enough oil to keep the lamps lit for a day, but it miraculously lasted for eight days instead. Latke – Potato Pancakes
Potato latkes are one of, if not the most well-known of Hanukkah foods. Shredded potato fried into a pancake shape and often topped with sour cream or applesauce, this simple yet versatile dish can be sweet or savory depending on your preferences.

As Hanukkah is a celebration of a long-lasting oil, it’s no surprise that many traditional Hanukkah foods are also prepared with/in oil.

Kugel is an egg noodle casserole that’s popular to serve during Jewish holidays. Like potato latkes it can be made as a sweet or savory dish, however the sweet version is more popular. If you’ve never tried it it seems like a strange dish, but it is SO GOOD.
