Do You Have the Required Specs to Run The Sims 4? Find Out Here!
The first thing to do before even installing The Sims 4 is to find out whether your specs can run it. The system requirements provided by the developers of the game should be closely considered if you are looking for the smoothest gameplay possible. And that’s exactly what we’ll be doing in this post!
If you’ve never bothered reading the required specs for The Sims 4, you may be surprised at how “low-demanding” they are. Sure, the game was released back in 2015 and it isn’t the heaviest of the gaming titles. However, its multiple additions like expansion packs and mods have made it a fairly big piece of work for your PC or Mac.
And if you’re struggling to have a steady 60 FPS in-game, then here are The Sims 4 specs you need to consider getting!
Your Sims 4 keeps crashing? These are the solutions!
The Sims 4 Specs for PC and Mac
Minimum Specs for Mac:
- OS: Metal required. Mac OS® X 10.11 (El Capitan)
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Processor or better
- RAM: At least 4 GB RAM
- HARD DRIVE: At least 15 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
- VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or better. Video RAM of 256MB or better
- INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse
- ONLINE REQUIREMENTS: Internet connection required for product activation.
The Mac comes off as a second choice when it comes to gaming. And given its history in this field, simmers often bypass the minimum specs for the Mac and go straight to the high-end Apple product or Windows instead.
Recommended Specs for Mac:
- OS: Mac OS® X 10.11 or later
- PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5 or better
- VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 650 or better
- MEMORY: 8 GB RAM
- HARD DRIVE: 18 GB of Hard Drive space
The recommended system requirements for the Mac are able to give you an overall smooth experience. What does this mean? Well, it means that these specs are powerful enough to run the base Sims 4 without a problem. However, once you add multiple expansion, game, or stuff packs, as well as mods and CC, your computer may struggle to keep up.
As a result, you can experience some screen tearing, FPS drops, and other annoying things. So, consider going over these specs if you’ve chosen the Mac as your simming machine!

- CPU: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 4000+ or equivalent (For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 or equivalent)
- RAM: At least 4 GB RAM
- DISC DRIVE: DVD Rom Drive required for installation only
- HARD DRIVE: At least 15 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
- VIDEO: 128 MB of Video RAM and support for Pixel Shader 3.0. Supported Video Cards: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, Intel GMA X4500 or better
- DIRECTX: DirectX 9.0,10 and 11 Compatible
- INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse
- ONLINE REQUIREMENTS: Internet connection required for product activation.
The minimum system requirements for the PC are a lot more freeing. Here you can make choices between none or two CPUs and GPUs. The thing about the Windows PC is that it’s fairly easy to upgrade it. So even if you don’t meet all the specs listed here, you can still invest a few bucks and have a pretty good computer for The Sims 4!
Recommended Specs for PC:
- OS: 64 Bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
- PROCESSOR: Intel core i5 or faster, AMD Athlon X4
- VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 650 or better
- MEMORY: 4 GB RAM
- HARD DRIVE: 18 GB of Hard Drive space
And the recommended specs for the PC are very similar to those for the Mac. Know that if you go above in every aspect of this list, you’ll have a much more powerful machine to run all those additional downloads that you need. We would advise for a little bit better graphics card than the NVIDIA GTX 650, as well as 8 GB RAM if you can afford it. Otherwise, you may have to limit yourself to fewer mods and packs.
