Learn How to Use the First Person Mode in The Sims 4!
If you’ve never dreamed of playing The Sims 4 in a first-person mode, well, it’s totally true! Back when the game was initially released, no such feature was even thought of. However, players have been wanting this option since the previous Sims’ titles. And no mod has ever come closer to deliver us this experience!
So, the developers had only one option – developed a fully functional first-person mode of gameplay for The Sims 4! The patch that hit The Sims 4 on November 13, 2018, updated the game with the first-person option for all simmers, regardless of their expansion or game packs.
With it, you can experience the life of your Sims through their own eyes. You can follow how they interact with the world around them, look at how they walk, how they cook, how they read… So, let’s learn how to use the first-person mode for The Sims 4 and what to do with this feature, as well as what to expect from it!

How to Use the First Person Mode in The Sims 4?
Activating and Deactivating the First Person Mode
To activate the first-person mode in The Sims 4 is actually very easy. All you have to do is press the SHIFT + TAB combination on your keyboard. The game will immediately take you into a first-person camera and you’ll be able to see what your Sims are seeing at the moment.
Note that this happens on the Sim you’ve currently selected. But, if you press SHIFT + SPACE, the first-person camera will switch to the next Sim, and so on and so on. This also includes pets, so playing the game from your dog’s viewpoint is one heck of an experience!
And to close the first-person mode in The Sims 4, you only have to press SHIFT + TAB once more. This will instantly exit this camera mode and return you to the basic Sims 4 interface.

Known Problems the First Person Mode
Despite the great idea and the hype around it, the first-person mode for The Sims 4 isn’t the shiniest of updates for the game. It has a bunch of little issues and bugs that break the experience for many simmers. So, let’s analyze for a moment.
First of all, we want to say that it’s totally possible to play the game in this mode and to actually enjoy it. For the most part, it provides a unique and refreshing change that was very welcomed by us. Being able to look at the house you’ve built yourself up-close and from your Sims’ eyes is honestly a great thing and we want more of it!
However, many simmers have reported multiple weird interactions and results while playing with this camera option. For example, actions like Woohoo can be particularly buggy, due to the fact that they aren’t meant to be seen from that angle.
Another big problem is that you can’t interact with objects if they aren’t in your field of view. If, for example, you wanted to play your piano but it’s on another floor, you’ll actually have to walk there first, then set the command to play the piano. This is understandable because it’s how the real world works as well. But we’re used to looking at everything at all times and being in full control.
And lastly, we wanted to mention the motion sickness problem. Naturally, when you play a video game in a first-person mode, there isn’t any unnecessary shaking. But, since this is The Sims 4 and our characters don’t fight monsters, but rather walk slowly and observe the world, they tend to shake their heads quite a bit. Seeing this continually may cause motion sickness to some people, so be careful around that.
Conclusion
Although not a perfect feature, the first-person camera mod for The Sims 4 is an extremely interesting addition that you have to try. For all its problems, being able to sit at your pool in your back yard, with the sun shining in your face, is really amazing! And if you’re creative, you can have incredible storytelling or role-playing experience with it.
