What is Rock Climbing In The Sims 4?
The launch of The Sims 4: Snowy Escape introduced our Sims to a flurry of new activities they can do in the game. With this EP, our Sims can not only go for long walks in the snow and have some snowboarding fun, but they can also do rock climbing! Unlike in the past, they are no longer limited to climbing indoor rock verticals as they can now practice climbing on real rocks. Below, you can discover how exactly your Sims can excel in this activity.
Rock Climbing as a Skill
Apart from being an incredible outdoor activity, rock climbing is also a skill. It was first introduced as a secret skill in The Sims 4: Fitness Stuff, and it later became a regular skill through The Sims 4: Snowy Escape. Teens to older Sims can build upon the rock climbing skill, which will also raise their fitness skills along the process.
Where Can Sims Do Rock Climbing?
Your Sims’ climbing experience in the wild can start in Senbamachi near the Bamboo forest, or in the snowy heights of the Mt. Komorebi rock walls. These rock walls are located in the Yukimatsu neighborhood, where you will find different areas for this type of activity. There are three different types of rock climbing snowy escape walls for different levels of climbing experience.
- Small Rock Wall
- Medium Rock Wall
- Tall Rock Wall
Other Ways to Build Up The Rock Climbing Skill
Alternatively, if you would like to be ahead of your climbing game, there is an option to learn about climbing before actually doing it on rock walls outdoors.
- Through the PC – Your Sims can learn and level up climbing skills from their PC at home. They will find all the knowledge they need about rock climbing techniques under the ”Browse” option.
- Through the Climbing Wall – Your Sims can also gain some rock climbing experience by using the Top Hitz Rock Climbing Wall, which is available for 2,600 simoleons in Buy Mode.
Most skills in The Sims 4 have 10 different levels, and rock climbing is no different. As your Sims get better at doing it, they will keep unlocking more fun activities with each level.
What Do Sims Need For The Climb?
For this kind of activity, just like in real life, your Sims will need to be properly equipped using the right gear. Sims who are focused, in a good mood, and have their energy and hunger bars filled are better at climbing as well.
- Climbing With Gear – Your Sims can order their climbing equipment online. New climbing gear costs 450 simoleons. To purchase, click on a computer and select ”More Choices”. Under this option, proceed with ”Order…”, and then choose the option ”Adventure Gear”. To get your climbing equipment select ”Purchase Rock Climbing Gear”.
- Climbing Without Gear – Your Sims can also climb without climbing gear. However, just like in real life, that is not advisable. They may not only learn climbing skills slower but also injure themselves or worse, even die. So daredevils of Sims be aware! Leave the Grim Reaper for the old age, shall we?
When you are ready for your Sims’ adventure, simply reach for your Sims’ inventory, let them put the gear on, and let them climb rocks! However, do remember that the rock climbing equipment is not only somewhat expensive but also fragile and can be worn out. Make sure to purchase a new one if needed. As your Sims continue to progress with their rock climbing levels, they’ll be able to unlock better climbing suits that suit their advanced skills!
Climbing Small Rock Walls
The Small Rock Wall is near Bunny Slopes, not far from Kiyomatsu Rental Property. If your Sims are a complete beginner, this is where to go to. This wall is meant for Sims who have no experience, and Level 1 and Level 2 rock climbing skills. Level 3 already unlocks the next level of climbing experience.
- Level 1 – Sims will be able to climb only small walls and do it in a Cautious or Normal mode. Your Sims will be able to prepare themselves for climbing and put on and take off their climbing gear.
- Level 2 – At this rock climbing level, Sims can now climb small walls in Courageous mode. Level 2 unlocks new fun snow goggles, and they’ll also be able to do breaking point climbing sessions. Still, this will apply to only small rock walls.

Climbing Medium Rock Walls
The Medium Rock Wall is located behind the Ski Lift. Sims who have minimum Level 3 rock climbing skills can unlock it.
- Level 3 – Now, your Sims can not only climb but also do their warmups and pre-climb stretching! Stretching before climbing will improve your Sims focus by +1. Level 3 unlocks medium-height rock walls for Cautious and Normal mode climbing, too.
- Level 4 – Your Sims can now climb medium-height rock walls in Courageous mode. Their climbing now becomes much more admirable, thanks to the chalk-hands self-interaction and previous practice. This will also improve their focus by +1.
- Level 5 – This level unlocks a pro climbing suit for your Sims. It also gives them an option to do breaking point climbing sessions. They will be able to do it not only on small walls but now also on medium-height rock walls.
Climbing Tall Rock Walls
The Tall Rock Wall is a challenge. Your Sims will have to not only reach Level 6 of rock climbing skill to attempt to claim one, but they will also have to put extra effort into finding it. Tall rock walls are found during special Mountain Climb Excursions. Sims will have to have at least Level 2 of rock climbing skills to do that.
- Level 6 – Your Sims are now brave enough to try something courageous, an attempt to climb on tall rock walls. They have enough expertise to share with others and ”Chat about Beta”.
- Level 7 – Climbing tall rock walls becomes available, but only in Cautious mode. At this rock climbing level, Sims will be able to prepare energy bars for their adventures by themselves.
- Level 8 – Reaching this level is admirable. It will unlock the option to climb tall rock walls in Normal mode and to Practice Sessions on them.
- Level 9 – At this level, Sims will be able to climb tall rock walls in a Courageous mode. Your Sims will also be crafty enough to make their very own homemade protein bars!
- Level 10 – Since your Sims are now a pro at rock climbing, they can share their knowledge with others and give ”Rock Climbing Tips”. They will also be able to coach others in rock climbing.
Other Rock Climbing Things to Remember
Here are other helpful nuggets to keep in mind when letting your Sims level up on their rock-climbing skill:
- Plan Mountain Climb Excursions – Your Sims can begin a planned event, called Mountain Climb Excursions, with other Sims. Available for 200 simoleons, this event will allow them to discover tall rock walls and build rock-climbing skills together.
- Mind the Weather – During Mountain Climb Excursions, it’s important to be aware that the weather may sometimes be extreme! Make sure that your Sims are ultimately prepared for the trip.
- Have an Adventurous Trait – Having an Adventurous trait for your Sims will be a bonus, especially if you want them to focus on their rock climbing activities and other athletic pursuits.
