At the beginning of 2025 the main menu for The Sims 4 got a whole new look. Some of the details have been good, such as showing a portrait of the household you’re playing with, but there have also been some less desirable features as part of the refresh. Pop ups for new content, multiple news links, and “encouragement” to buy more DLCs all clutter the main menu, making it incredibly busy compared to how it was not even 6 months ago.

With Refreshed Main Menu 2.2, news stories default to being hidden at game launch. You can toggle them on or off by simply hitting the S key.

Additionally, the Store tab won’t have that little red circle alert it does when there’s DLC you haven’t purchased.

Fun Featured Family Options

The family portrait of your most recently played household will no longer appear at launch, but can be recalled by hitting the F key. Want the family to show at startup like it does in vanilla? Download the optional SimMattically_RefreshedMainMenu_FamilyPortraitInitiallyVisible file and they’ll stay front and center.

Refreshed Main Menu 2.2 shows your active household portrait with a simple white frame. You have the option to remove this frame with the SimMattically_RefreshedMainMenu_FamilyPortrait_NoFrame file and there’s also the SimMattically_RefreshedMainMenu_SmallerFamilyPortrait if you want your portraits to be smaller. Both files can be used together or separately.

Beautiful Backgrounds You Can Change Anytime

There are currently over 3-dozen different backgrounds you can choose from for your main menu, and you can have as many or as few as you want! A random image will appear every time you load up The Sims 4 and you can press the R key to re-roll the image for something new.

If you have a widescreen monitor you need not worry about losing details; Refreshed Main Menu 2.2 has widescreen support so you can enjoy those lovely backgrounds without unsightly bars on either side!

Cosmetic Upgrades

Our last category of features in Refreshed Main Menu 2.2 are the cosmetic fixes. Most importantly, if you suffered a strange bug where sometimes the main menu would sport a blue overlay you won’t have to worry about it anymore since this mod removes it.

The final optional change you can make is a slight update to the game logo. The simple green plumbob is replaced with a more vivid one akin to the version from The Sims 3, and the rest of the text is white as not to distract from it.
