Teen relationships in The Sims 4 are getting a much more complicated with the Parental Boundaries mod by Delimaci. Instead of parents simply ignoring who their teen is dating, they can now meet the partner, form opinions, react to the relationship and even set some very serious boundaries.

This is one of those mods that can turn an ordinary teen romance into an entire storyline. Depending on how the family gets along, things can go from supportive parents to awkward family tension, secret visits and some seriously uncomfortable confrontations.

Parents Can Finally Have Opinions About Teen Dating

With Parental Boundaries, parents actually get to know their teen’s romantic partner before deciding how they feel about the relationship. A parent can approve, remain unsure, or completely disapprove, and their decision is influenced by their relationship with the partner and what they’ve learned about them.

The fun part is that each parent makes their own decision. That means Mum could absolutely adore her teen’s boyfriend while Dad thinks he’s the worst Sim ever. Parents can even talk to each other about their different opinions, defend the relationship, question the other parent’s judgment, or simply agree to disagree.

Parents Can Get to Know the Partner

Before making up their minds, parents can actually spend time getting to know the Sim their teen is dating. They can ask about things like school grades, future plans, jobs, finances, family, interests, after-school activities and their intentions with the teen.

That information can also change as the partner’s life changes, so their parents’ opinions don’t have to be based on one quick interaction. It makes the whole system feel much more connected to what’s actually happening in your save.

Your Teen’s Relationship Can Change the Whole Atmosphere

Once a parent has formed an opinion, they don’t simply forget about it. An approving parent can make the partner feel welcome, while an unsure parent may create a more awkward atmosphere as they decide whether they trust them.

The creator has built escalating consequences into the system, with repeated incidents potentially leading to a major ultimatum. Eventually, the teen may have to choose between ending the relationship and staying in the household, or staying with their partner and moving out.

Parents Can Change Their Minds

Thankfully, parental disapproval isn’t necessarily forever. As the parent spends more time with the partner and their relationship improves, things can change.

Teens can eventually ask their parent to reconsider, giving players a chance to repair the relationship instead of forcing every storyline into a permanent family feud. Parents can also naturally change their opinions as they get to know the partner better.

Sentiments Make the Drama Stick Around

Another nice touch is the use of Sentiments. Teens and parents can develop lasting feelings based on what happens during these situations, including feeling supported or unsupported by each other.

That means the consequences aren’t only about what happens in the moment. Your Sims can actually carry some of those feelings with them as the family story continues.

Parental Boundaries Has an In-Game Guide

Since there are quite a few systems and possible outcomes to keep track of, Delimaci has also added Parental Boundaries to The Sims 4’s Lessons menu. The creator plans to continue expanding the guide as the mod develops.

That’s a welcome addition because there are enough different interactions here that you could easily discover something new while playing. And honestly, discovering the consequences naturally might be half the fun.

Parental Boundaries Mod Requirements

Before installing the mod, you’ll need XML Injector and Lumpinou’s Mood Pack. Both dependencies should be installed and kept up to date, and because the mod includes a script file, you’ll also need Script Mods Allowed enabled in your Sims 4 settings.
