If you’ve ever wished your child Sims could have bigger dreams that actually stay with them as they grow up, Childhood Dreams by FrequentlyBasic might become one of your favorite storytelling mods. Instead of childhood memories disappearing over time, this mod lets kids dream about their future and follows those dreams all the way into adulthood.

The result is a much deeper storytelling experience. Your Sims can chase lifelong ambitions, move on from old dreams, or discover that growing up doesn’t always go exactly as planned. It’s a simple concept that adds an incredible amount of personality to every generation.

Childhood Dreams Mod Turns a Simple Journal Into a Storytelling Tool

Everything starts with a Private Journal, which can either be the custom journal included with the mod or the Parenthood journal. You’ll find it under Study > Indoor Activities in Build/Buy.

Child Sims can use the journal to write down several important childhood dreams, including their dream career, first crush, future self, and even the supernatural creature they wish they could become someday. Once written, every dream is stored inside the Sim’s notebook, where its progress is automatically tracked throughout their life.

Rather than simply recording memories, the notebook evolves with your Sim. Dreams can remain active, come true, become dreams once lived, or show that your Sim has chosen to move on while growing older.

Dream Careers Feel Personal Instead of Random

One of the biggest highlights of Childhood Dreams is its detailed dream career system.

Children can choose a dream career themselves by writing in their journal, creating a completely self-inspired goal. Alternatively, family members can influence them through special Friendly > Childhood Dreams conversations about work and the future.

After hearing these conversations, children unlock a new journal interaction that lets them write down a career inspired by someone they admire. The mod then intelligently determines which family member inspired them based on friendship, conversations they’ve had, special careers, and even deceased relatives.

Once the dream is recorded, you’ll receive a notification explaining which career your child chose and who inspired it. Other Sims can even ask children about their dream careers, making these aspirations feel like a real part of everyday family life.

Family Legacies Continue Across Generations

One particularly touching feature is how the mod handles retired and deceased relatives.

Retired Sims automatically keep the career they finished with, while deceased Sims preserve the final career they held before passing away, provided the mod was installed beforehand and they haven’t been released to the Netherworld.

This allows children to be inspired by parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other close relatives they may have never even met. The notebook remembers these family connections, creating emotional legacy stories that fit perfectly into long-running saves.

Childhood Crushes Can Become Lifelong Love Stories

The journal also lets children record their very first crush.

A childhood crush must be another child or teen Sim with at least 15 friendship. As the years pass, the notebook automatically tracks what happens next. Maybe the crush fades away, maybe they start dating, get engaged, marry, or simply become a sweet childhood memory.

Players who already use LittleMsSam’s First Love mod receive an extra bonus, since confessing a crush through that mod automatically registers the Sim as the childhood crush inside Childhood Dreams.

Future Selves and Supernatural Fantasies Add Even More Personality

Not every dream has to involve careers or romance.

Children can also imagine the kind of adult they hope to become by selecting a Future Self, which represents a reward trait they want someday. Alongside that, they can write down a Supernatural Fantasy, choosing which occult life they dream about experiencing.

Whether your Sim hopes to become a fairy, vampire, spellcaster, werewolf, or another supernatural being, these dreams remain part of their story as they grow older.

Sims Can Grow Out of Their Childhood Dreams

One of the newest additions to Childhood Dreams introduces a realistic feature that many storytellers will appreciate.

Young Adult Sims and older can choose to Move On from unrealized childhood dreams by interacting with their personal journal. Instead of permanently failing a dream, the notebook simply updates the status from Still Dreaming to Moved On.

Even better, the dream can still become reality later. If your Sim eventually achieves that goal, the notebook automatically updates once again, reflecting their new life path.

Helpful Settings and Repair Options

FrequentlyBasic has also included several quality-of-life features for players with heavily modded games.

A configuration file allows players to exclude specific careers from the dream career selection, including custom careers. Meanwhile, generated log files list every valid career currently detected in your game, making customization much easier.

The latest versions also include repair cheats for situations where custom careers receive updated tuning IDs after game patches. With testing cheats enabled, players can quickly repair dream careers and career inspirations without restarting an entire save.

A Storytelling Mod Built for Long Generational Saves

Perhaps the best part of Childhood Dreams is that it doesn’t simply add new interactions. It creates stories that naturally evolve over generations.

The creator even showcases examples like Claire giving up an athletic career after an injury while finding love with her childhood crush, Adam proudly following his uncle into the Secret Agent career, and Jason honoring his late father by becoming a detective himself. These small moments become memorable family histories that continue long after childhood ends.

Future updates are already planned as well, with additional journal entries allowing Sims to reflect on their lives and revisit old dreams as they age.

Final Thoughts

If you enjoy legacy gameplay, family storytelling, or simply giving your Sims richer personalities, Childhood Dreams is an easy recommendation. It transforms childhood into a meaningful stage of life where every dream has the potential to shape a Sim’s future.

The mod is Base Game compatible, with Parenthood and Growing Together recommended for the best experience, though neither is required. It also requires the Lot 51 Core Library to function properly.

Our Site and service providers may automatically receive your IP address, browser and device information, operating system, referring page, access times, pages viewed, searches, link or ad interactions, and cookie or device identifiers. An IP address may be used to infer approximate location. Advertising partners may derive interests or audience segments from browsing activity.

If you separately subscribe, we may send newsletters, new Sims content, site updates and occasional promotional emails. Subscription is optional and is not required to create an account. Essential account, security and service emails are separate from marketing.

We use EmailOctopus to manage newsletters, with Amazon SES for delivery through EmailOctopus Connect. Subscriber information may include your email address, optional name, consent and subscription status, signup source and time, confirmation records, unsubscribe status, delivery information and technical information needed to send emails.

Where campaign tracking is enabled with any required consent, EmailOctopus may record email opens through tracking pixels and link clicks to help measure campaign performance. See the EmailOctopus Privacy Policy.

5. How We Use Information

We use information to operate SnootySims, provide and secure accounts, recover access, answer requests, send subscribed communications, improve content and performance, understand site use, prevent fraud, meet legal obligations, and deliver and measure advertising, including personalized advertising where applicable.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our providers may use cookies, local storage, pixels and similar technologies for sessions, security, preferences, analytics, advertising and ad measurement. For example, browser storage remembers site preferences and guest usage limits.

You can manage cookies through your browser and use privacy controls available on the Site. Blocking storage may affect account features or preferences. Raptive advertising controls apply to Raptive ads; they do not necessarily control every other service on the Site.

7. Analytics and Google Services

The Site uses Google Tag Manager to load configured tags. Where Google Analytics is enabled, it may process device and browser information, page views, referrals, session activity, approximate location and cookies or similar identifiers to help us understand site use and improve content. Google also processes information when you choose Google sign-in. See the Google Privacy Policy.

8. Advertising and Raptive

Advertising.

CMI Marketing, Inc., d/b/a Raptive (“Raptive”) is a service provider of this Site for the purposes of placing advertising on the Site, and Raptive will collect and use certain data for advertising purposes. To learn more about Raptive’s data usage, click here: Raptive Advertising Privacy Statement

Raptive and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers, IP addresses, browser information, browsing and ad activity, approximate location and inferred interests for personalized ads, measurement, analytics and fraud prevention. These disclosures may qualify as a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under state privacy laws, even without exchanging a customer database for money.

9. Advertising Privacy Choices

For US visitors, Raptive supplies a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control through its ad code, ordinarily at the bottom of the homepage or the first ad-supported page you visit. Use that control to manage Raptive advertising choices. If it is unavailable, contact us. Opting out does not remove all ads; contextual or non-personalized ads may still appear.

Browser-based choices may need to be repeated on other browsers or devices or after clearing cookies.

10. How We Disclose Information

Information may be disclosed to hosting, infrastructure, authentication, email, analytics and security providers to operate the Site; to Raptive and advertising partners for the purposes described above; when required by law or necessary to protect rights and security; and to parties involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of business assets, subject to applicable law. Providers may process information outside your state or country, including in the United States.

11. US State Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence and whether the applicable law applies to SnootySims, you may have rights to confirm processing, access, correct or delete information, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising or certain profiling. Where applicable, you may limit certain sensitive-information uses and appeal a denied request. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

12. California Privacy Notice

  • Internet activity: pages viewed, searches, clicks and Site or advertising interactions.
  • Approximate location: location inferred from an IP address.
  • Inferences: advertising interests or audience segments derived by advertising partners.

Eligible California residents may request to know or access information, correct or delete it, opt out of sale or sharing, and limit certain uses of sensitive personal information where applicable. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify your identity or an authorized agent’s authority. We respond within applicable legal time limits. Other applicable laws may also give you access, correction, deletion, portability, objection, restriction and complaint rights. You may withdraw consent for consent-based processing without affecting earlier lawful processing.

14. Global Privacy Control

Raptive states that its advertising systems recognize Global Privacy Control (GPC) as an opt-out signal. Qualifying GPC signals are treated as opt-out requests where applicable law requires. These browser-based advertising choices do not delete your account or unsubscribe you from emails. GPC is different from the older “Do Not Track” signal; we do not promise a uniform response to that older signal.

15. Retention and Security

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including providing services, security, legal compliance, resolving disputes, fraud prevention and respecting unsubscribe requests. After an eligible deletion request, information may be deleted or de-identified, subject to applicable exceptions.

We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information in circumstances prohibited by COPPA. Contact us if you believe a child has provided such information.

Where applicable, sale or sharing of personal information of users known to be under 16 requires the authorization specified by law, including parental authorization for children under 13.
