What are PlantSims, really? A lot of Simmers don’t really know so much about these green Sims. So today, we’ll dive in on everything there is to know about PlantSims in The Sims 4.
PlantSims In the Past games
PlantSims have been around since The Sims: Makin’ Magic, launched way back in 2003. So, they’ve been around for a total of 21 years! Ever since then, these green Sims have appeared in the succeeding Sims games, becoming a beloved icon in the game.
PlantSims in The Sims: makin’ Magic
In their first appearance in the Sims series, PlantSims are simple green creatures. Turning into one has not much effect on a Sim, except on their appearance. Our Sims can become a PlantSim in The Sims when they use the Beauty or Beast charm, which is crafted using three Beeswax ingredients.
PlantSims in The Sims 2: Seasons
It’s fun how Sims turn into PlantSims in The Sims 2: Seasons. When we use a massive amount of pesticide on them when gardening, Sims can suddenly become a PlantSim. In this second installment, they can achieve more plant-related activities like being able to talk to plants and needing water and sunlight in order to live.
PlantSims in The Sims 3: University Life
The Sims 3: University Life introduces a whole new layer of the PlantSim life. Through this expansion pack, our Sims can become plant creatures when they consume the Forbidden Fruit. Then, instead of getting pregnant and producing a Sim baby, our PlantSims here can produce a Forbidden Fruit seed which has a chance of becoming a PlantSim baby. Like the previous game, they can also converse with plants.
What is A PlantSim In The Sims 4?
In The Sims 4, we can encounter a more advanced version of PlantSims. Like in The Sims 3, PlantSims here are a different life state, and not like regular Sims. They first appeared as a part of the PlantSim Challenge, during the game’s 49th update on April 23, 2017.
How To Take Care of PlantSims in The Sims 4?
1. Help Them Get Sunlight.
Sims who have become PlantSims would need sunlight to satiate their hunger. Through soaking up in sunlight, they would be able to photosynthesize. The more they spend time outside, the happier they will be.
2. Let Them Soak Up on Water.
Of course, as a plant creature, our PlantSims would also need to hydrate themselves to feel satisfied. We would be able to notice that their Bladder need will turn into “Water,” and they would have to take a bath, drink water, or wash their hands to fulfill this bar. We can also let them become drenched in the rain for instant hydration.
3. Fill Up Their Social Needs.
The best thing about becoming a PlantSim is that they don’t need to talk to actual Sims in order to fulfill their social bars. They can instead choose to communicate with plants to raise their social bar. What’s more, while doing these banters, PlantSims will also receive nutrients from the plants, which will raise their Hunger bar.

How Can I Turn Sims Into PlantSims?
There are three ways to turn our Sims into PlantSims in The Sims 4. The first process requires you to have the Sims 4: Cool Kitchen stuff pack, the second one works using just the base game, while the third one involves cheats! Just choose the most convenient option for you.
1. Eat Plant Matter Ice Cream.
With The Sims 4: Cool Kitchen stuff pack, our Sims can use the Sweet Tooth Ice Cream Machine (175 simoleons) to craft refreshing ice cream creations. Once they reach level 8 in their cooking skills, we can unlock the creation of Plant Matter flavored ice cream recipes using the said machine! Once our Sims eat this ice cream, they will then turn into PlantSims! But, this is a short state that would only work for the next 4 hours. Their appearance would not completely change as well, as compared to legit PlantSims in options 2 and 3 below.
2. Collect the Magic Beans.
This method is a little bit harder, but it will turn our Sims into PlantSims for 5 full days! Here’s how it goes. If The Sims 4: Seasons is installed, we can buy rare seeds from our sim’s PC once they reach level 10 in Gardening. Once we buy a rare seed pack, there’s a chance that this bag will contain magic beans. If we place all 6 of them in the “Magic PlantSim Stump” and water these daily, a portal will open.
We can send our Sims through that portal by clicking “explore”. After a few tries, they will come back with the “Fruit of the PlantSim,” a known forbidden fruit. From there on, we can either make our Sims eat the fruit which will let them turn into a PlantSim right away, or make them plant the fruit on a planter in order to reproduce some seeds before using.
3. Use Cheats!
If you don’t have The Sims 4: Cool Kitchen stuff pack or if you think the Magic Bean option is too time-consuming, you also have the option to use cheats. Follow these steps to turn your Sim into a plant!
- Press Ctrl + Shift + C.
- Type testingcheats true and hit the Enter button.
- Click on your Sim while holding down the Shift button.
- Click “Make into PlantSim”.
Turning PlantSims Back to Normal
There are two ways to approach this. You can either wait until your sims turn back to normal after 4 hours via the first method above, or 5 days via the second and third methods. If you want to speed up the return back to normal, use this cheat:
- Enter testingcheats true.
- Type “sims.remove_all_buffs cheat”.
- Your sim will then turn back to normal!
Death of PlantSims
As mentioned above, our PlantSims have different needs in order to continue being satisfied with their lives. If these needs are not met, they can wither and die, much like real plants. If you keep your PlantSims inside the house for more than a day or dehydrate them for many hours, they will die. Make look to look for signs before death, such as their hair turning gray.
Conclusion
Playing with PlantSims in The Sims 4 is a lot of fun because these shrubby Sims have a much different set of needs and circumstances than our good old regular Sims. Even if eating the forbidden fruit and becoming a PlantSim is just a temporary process, the time spent by our Sims as one just feels super entertaining for us Simmers. So that’s it!
