Malls are of course still a thing in many places today, but in the 80’s and 90’s they really had a choke-hold on young people. They had everything you could want: shopping, arcades, movie theatres, food courts, and more, and they were a great place to socialize because parents would often leave their kids at the mall unattended so there was a huge sense of freedom there. These days many malls are a shadow of what they used to be, but for a small window of time they were a glorious beacon of freedom for the youth.
