If you’ve ever wanted to add tiny grocery stores, book corners, garden kiosks, or adventure supply shops to your worlds without turning an entire lot into a retail business, this new Custom Shop Types Mod might be exactly what your save has been missing.

The Custom Shop Types Mod introduces lightweight, flexible micro shops that can be placed on any lot type. Instead of running a full retail business, your Sims can simply visit a register or ticket machine, browse a curated selection of items, and make their purchases. It’s a really neat option for adding more life and functionality to community lots and everyday neighborhoods.

Custom Shop Types Bring Small Shops to Any Lot

The Custom Shop Types Mod by Simsefin allows you to turn a Retail Register from Get To Work or a Ticket Machine from Businesses & Hobbies into a functional micro shop. The best part is that these shops can be placed on any lot type, giving you plenty of freedom when decorating and building your worlds.

You can even place multiple registers or ticket machines on the same lot and give each one a different Shop Type. That means you could create a community hub with a grocery stand, bookstore, and garden shop all in one place, or add a tiny adventure kiosk to a park or vacation-inspired build.

How to Set Up a Custom Shop

Setting up a shop is pretty straightforward. In Live Mode, enable cheats and Shift-click a compatible Retail Register or Ticket Machine to open the Custom Shop Settings menu. From there, you can choose the Shop Type and decide how much the shop should charge.

The settings are stored directly on the object rather than being tied to a particular Sim. This means any Sim can use or adjust the settings whenever you want, making it especially convenient for builds where several different shops are placed together.

Choose Your Shop Type

Once you assign a Shop Type, the register or ticket machine instantly becomes that type of micro shop. Each shop comes with its own curated item selection, categories, pricing, and custom buff.

When a Sim clicks the object, they can choose Buy… to open the shopping menu. The available products automatically adjust based on the Sims 4 packs you own, so your item selection can change depending on your installed content.

Purchased items are delivered directly to your Sim’s inventory. Larger objects that cannot be dragged into a Sim’s inventory are instead sent to the Household Inventory.

Set Your Own Shop Pricing

You also have control over how expensive each micro shop should be. The Custom Shop Types Mod includes three pricing levels, allowing you to create anything from an inexpensive neighborhood kiosk to a seriously overpriced specialty store.

Normal adds a 25% markup, while Pricey adds a 50% markup. If you really want your Sims to feel the pain of shopping somewhere fancy, Exorbitant adds a 100% markup.

The selected pricing level applies to all items sold through that particular register or ticket machine.

Build Multiple Shops on One Lot

One of the coolest parts of the Custom Shop Types Mod is that there’s no limit to how many different shop types you can have on the same lot.

You could create a little shopping center with several registers, add a book corner to a café, build a garden center next to a greenhouse, or place an Adventure Shop near a hiking area. The possibilities are especially useful for players who enjoy detailed world-building and creating lots that feel like they have a purpose.

In the creator’s own Threads of Life save, the Crumbling Pier Supply lot in Windenburg has been given both an Adventure Shop and a Grocery Shop.

Wholesale Prices for Shop Owners

There’s another useful feature for Sims who actually own the lot. If a register or ticket machine is placed on a lot owned by your Sim, including retail, small business, or residential lots, the shop automatically provides access to wholesale prices.

The wholesale option gives a 20% discount off the normal price markup, making it useful for Sims who need to purchase stock for their physical businesses.

This can be particularly handy for restocking things like groceries, gardening supplies, adventure equipment, apothecary ingredients, and other products without paying the full customer price.

Custom Buffs Make Each Shop Feel Unique

Each Shop Type also comes with its own custom Happy buff. These buffs feature Maxis Match-style icons and text and are given to your Sim after making a purchase.

It’s a small detail, but it gives each micro shop a little more personality and makes shopping feel like an actual gameplay interaction rather than simply opening a menu and buying an object.

Five Shop Types Are Available in Version 1.0

Version 1.0 currently includes five curated Shop Types, each designed around a different category of items.

Grocery Shop

The Grocery Shop focuses on everyday essentials, including fresh produce, cooking ingredients, drinks, and artisan goods such as canning items and cakes.

It’s a great option for adding small grocery stores throughout your worlds instead of relying on one large shopping location.

Garden Shop

The Garden Shop is dedicated to gardening and outdoor crafting. Sims can purchase flowers, seeds, fertilizers, pots, planters, and other gardening-related items.

This would work beautifully as a tiny plant kiosk, greenhouse shop, neighborhood garden center, or outdoor market stall.

Some special objects become available when your Sim reaches Gardening Skill Level 10, keeping certain items locked behind the same progression used in the regular game.

Bookshop

Book lovers finally have another way to create little bookstores throughout their saves. The Bookshop offers all available books in the game, including novels, skill books, children’s books, occult tomes, and more.

You could use it to create a tiny bookstore, library gift shop, café reading corner, or a dedicated community bookshop.

Adventure Shop

The Adventure Shop is designed around exploration and outdoor gameplay. Sims can purchase things like tents, lanterns, bug spray, coolers, climbing equipment, survival supplies, and other travel essentials.

It could easily become a hiking kiosk, forest ranger station, beachside supply stand, or tiny travel shop tucked away in an adventurous neighborhood.

Apothecary Shop

The Apothecary Shop focuses on apothecary gameplay, offering apothecary ingredients alongside crafted items such as Ailment Cures and Elixirs.

This one could be especially fun for players who enjoy creating nature-inspired or magical-looking community lots. You could build a small healing shop, herbalist store, or Maxis Match-style apothecary anywhere in your save.

The Apothecary Shop requires the Enchanted by Nature EP to appear in-game. Some special objects also remain locked until your Sim reaches Apothecary Skill Level 10.

Item Selection Adjusts to Your Packs

The creator has carefully curated the item lists across multiple Sims 4 packs, including individual color variants. The available products and categories are designed to remain pack-safe and automatically adjust according to the packs you have installed.

Most important items within each category are included, while certain rarer items remain locked behind skill requirements just as they are in the unmodded game. For example, Magic Seeds become available at Gardening Level 10, while certain Apothecary products follow the corresponding skill progression.

These Shops Are Made for World-Building

It’s important to note that these micro shops aren’t designed to generate profit or function as ownable retail businesses.

Instead, the focus is on creating lightweight shopping locations for active Sims. That makes the mod particularly useful for players who want their worlds to feel more lived-in without adding the complexity of managing another full business.

You can simply place a register or ticket machine, choose what kind of shop it should be, and let your Sims use it whenever they need something.

Pack Requirements and Compatibility

The Custom Shop Types Mod requires Get To Work or Businesses & Hobbies, since those packs provide the Retail Register and Ticket Machine objects that the mod uses.

Aside from those requirements, the mod can work with any combination of other Sims 4 packs. Shop inventories will adjust according to the content available in your game.

The creator also states that the mod should be compatible with other mods because it doesn’t override existing in-game tuning and instead adds new tunings.

Custom CC registers and ticket machines should also work as long as they were properly created from a genuine Get To Work Retail Register or Businesses & Hobbies Ticket Machine object.
