Door beads are certainly not a 90’s invention but they had a resurgence in popularity during that time along with the likes of lava lamps and black lights. When your parents forced you to leave the door open because you had somebody over, they provided a bit of privacy (if they didn’t get all tangled up from you going through them so often).
