 Re: Cultural references in Sims
In TS2 there was a house like Baba Yaga's house (with chicken legs), I don't know where it was, but it was hidden somewhere.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleasantville_(film) It also has Jennifer and Betty in there to. xD David I guess is probably supposed to be Daniel. Remember, the names are the same, the plot isn't though.

Thanks Jawsh, I'm so watching it! I've heard of that Baba Yaga's house, but I never found it. Is it a secret witch lot or something? Pictures anyone?

I think it was in the neighborhood that came with Free Time, but I'm not sure. Can't find any screens of it though...

It's actually in Belladonna Cove and it isn't viewable with the default Maxis cameras.

 Re: Cultural references in Sims
Correct me if i'm wrong - but i seriously think that the bubble blower from university is like a spoof of a bong. I mean, people sit around it and blow (instead of breathe in) and bubbles (instead of smoke) comes out. And also - instead of getting high, they literally get high, by floating AND it came with university, (which i know some people will take offensivly) but isn't that when people try stuff like that in the first place?

 Re: Cultural references in Sims
Lol I noticed almost all of those apart from the harrypotter one? I think the references are good. It must be hard for the creators to come up with all of the familys they do, a theme probably helps them. And if they werent there we wouldnt have fun noticing them It gives you a theme to go with and if you dont want to you can take it in the complete opposite if you want. Im thinking in a couple of expansions maybe a twilight themed family may appear

I like having a theme to go with the familys. It does make the game alot of fun.

Well, the retro movie poster is obviously based on The Breakfast Club. Those of you who are younger may not have heard of that film.

In one of the TS1 expansions there's a concavely shaped dresser named "blue steel", named after male model Derek Zoolanders famous look.

It's also quite relevant aswell as the film hosts the common theme of trouble beyond the white picket fence. Pleasantview in Sims has that with all the drama going on.
This is a really good idea for a thread. I must seek references!

 Re: Cultural references in Sims
Just watched American Beauty and is it just me or the Pleasants (Sims2version) seem to be based on the main family. You've got an emo/goth teen, A father having an affair, workoholic mother. Kaylyn seems to be taking the place of the cheerleader who was the love interest.

In the Sims 2 there is a career challenge for an exorcist sim to heal a possessed girl with backup. I think it's pretty obvious to know that comes from The Exorcist. In the Sims 2 and 3, there is a show on the Cooking channel that looks like it's based on Iron chef.

 Re: Cultural references in Sims
I recall one of the chance cards in TS2 ( I believe a low level science career one?) having something to do with eating either a red or blue piece of licorice for a science experiment. It reminded me of taking the red/blue pill in The Matrix.
