Post The Sims 3: Island Paradise EP 10!
On 8 January 2013 EA/Maxis announced 3 new EP's for The Sims 3 under 2013. First University, then Island Paradise and last Time-Travel.

Quote:
Image
Dropping anchor this June is The Sims 3 Island Paradise, an expansion pack filled with adventure, exploration and a world of new discoveries set on the sunny shores and beneath the glistening water of a tropical paradise. For the first time ever, Sims can take the helm of fully customizable houseboats and set sail in search of uncharted islands, create, own and manage resorts or discover what lies beneath the ocean through the new skill-based scuba diving and snorkeling activities.

The Sims 3 Island Paradise introduces all new ways to build – whether it’s a lavish five-star resort, a bungalow on the water or a houseboat that can travel the seas. Players can create their own idea of island paradise for their Sims in this new expansion pack and embark on an unforgettable journey.

Is that going to be some sort of vacation-y expansion?

Sounds like something that should have been included with Sunlit Tides or vice versa. Some interesting ideas, but I'll wait and see.

It's not really vacation, although your sim can build and run a resort, I think it's more about living life in a tropical setting. They mentioned that you can hop on a boat and cruise around to different islands; if you find one that is uninhabited, it could become your private island.

Being able to go underwater with your sim and find treasures and see marine life is a feature that goes along with the scuba and snorkel skills, too.

Then there is the house boat, which you can completely customize and sail around so the view out your front window can change daily.

I wasn't all that interested until they started talking about running a resort, which could be anything from a small, private bungalow to a sprawling property with lots of rooms. That could be really cool.

This seems like a clever disguise for a vacation pack, but with the possibility for a Castaway remake. I like how resorts are back meaning hotels are too and with something people wanted in The Sims 2 Bon Voyage, being able to run and manage one. Perhaps a hint at the untitled pack being Open for Business.

Do you think this pack might include the possibility of being marooned? This kind of makes Sunlit Tides meaningless, but it would be cool if EA packages it with the pack.

Fail. I really just want to punch the EA team in the face because this could have been done hand-in-hand with World Adventures.

Well then, I've been expecting this to be annouced for quite a while.
I'm interested in how the houseboats will operate... even the largest worlds aren't big enough to actually go 'exploring' on a boat, so I'm guessing they'll just sail off into the distance and you'll be controlling what they do via popup messages, similar to the mausoleum and time machine.

And I think we can all agree that the creature for this expansion pack will be the mermaid, right?

I know, I mean- there will be house boats, man, actual usable house boats. And the opportunity to run your own resort. That automatically sold me onto this pack.

But it'll probably just be like The Good Life.

From watching the livestream, it looks as though this will be another one of those expansion packs that you really only benefit from by playing the world it ships with - I really don't see boat travel and island exploration being all that useful in Sunset Valley or Appaloosa Plains. Unless of course the island world is a sub-world like university which would explain the 'resorts' aspect of it.

From what they said, underwater exploring won't just be like the mausoleum, so you can actually take the 'camera' underwater with you and see what's going on. I'm sort of curious to see how that would work with pre-existing worlds as well, it would be kind of weird to have a coral reef growing in Riverview. The prospect of playing as a mermaid and actually living underwater is very interesting though, I can see that being very useful for people making fantasy worlds.

I guess we will be able to use boats in main towns too which will feel kinda odd (Except for Sunlit Tides i guess, because it kinda fits there) They said that the world will be a sub-hood because you can go to a normal vacation there and also build up a resort like you said. I think this EP just like University has good potential if EA/Maxis just make it the right way!

I wouldn't call Sunlit Tides useless because the update will probebly add scuba diving and marine life to all the worlds and also boats will probebly work in any world including Sunlit Tides.

I can't wait for this ep. I've been wanting a real vacation bon voyage sims 3 ep for the longest. I hope it opens up resturents since there will be hotels.

By June a patch may enable us to travel to any world we have without a mod.

Wow, I hate this EP already. Damnit EA, you can't just go forcing features into The Sims, it doesn't work that way!

Sure, I loved Castaway Stories back in TS2, but that was part of the 'Life Stories' spin-offs, so it worked better, while this is an additional to our usual TS3 game, so it's just going to kill the game. Although, I gotta admit, Boats are kinda handy, but that's about it, the rest is tacky and I hate it.

I am not going to bother with this EP unless something amazing jumps out at me.

Well it does sound like this EP is world specific. I can't see this theme fitting in well with places like Lucky Palms or Sunset Valley. But that aside, resorts could be fun, and maybe the houseboats and such if they do it right like others have said. It just kinda sucks though that they're going with a theme I probably won't be bothered to use for long. Meaning, I think the novelty will wear off and most of my sims won't have houseboats or run resorts.

Why won't this theme fit for Lucky Palms? Resorts should go wonderfully with the casino items and they already attempted houseboats in this world.

Sunset Valley, not so much.

I have to agree with you there - I don't see this EP having a lot of features that will fit with every world and every Sim family. It will be fun to run a resort for a while, but I don't expect to have more than one family doing that at a time.

Fair point but I guess I think of Lucky Palms as more desert, and this is supposed to be tropical. I guess they could go though. :P And I'm all for them working out because Lucky Palms is my favorite world. <3

I love Lucky Palms too. Maybe it's because it's in the desert or because it's inspired by Vegas. I dunno the reason. The only thing I am worried about is that Lucky Palms will forever have static houseboats where as actual working houseboats become usable.

I also think it might be cool to have a non-tropical world that also is known for boating someday. Like maybe one inspired by San Francisco. Then we essentially have the cities that make up San Andreas covered with that, Starlight Shores, and Lucky Palms.

I'm sure the resorts could be made to fit in with non-tropical worlds. I even found a thread with some very nice lots for it except it uses a lot of store content and stuff pack content. I recently signed up on Origin and maybe I should start picking up stuff packs for $13 from LGR's store.
