there's still hope for a vacation expansion that doesn't..
involve adventures or stupid crap. don't get me wrong.. world adventures was alright. cameras and tents were a plus. the foreigners and vacationers seemed to be.. a nice touch. but most of the game felt like you were playing a lara croft tomb raider adventure game. the sims is not about visiting pyramids in ancient egypt to retrieve some treasure that is hidden underground, or something. it drifted away from the point. i mean, it's great if you like that kind of thing.. but not everybody likes opportunity based gameplay. opportunities are to make things interesting, not to decide what you're going to do. and here we come back to the open ended gameplay aspect of the sims..
somebody asked about it in the twitter interview. grant kept saying 'anything's possible' but he also said that he likes vacation. this could mean that a future expansion could have hotels, camping, and a lot of what bon voyage offered. maybe there would even be some sims 1: vacation elements implemented. such as the cabins and the games where you can win tokens and prizes. i'm not sure that they would think to do it, but it'd be great if they did. even with late night, they're incorporating sims 2 + sims 1 themes, as well as new stuff.
your thoughts?

I'd like another one of those 'generic location' versions with the Beach, Mountain and Snow destinations.

that would be nice. i would look forward to vacationing in a destination where you could sleep in a cabin, or a tent in the mountains or woods. or you could check into a hotel at the beach, as well as dig in the sand and sunbathe. and especially the ability to swim in the ocean again.

Y'know I was wondering about this. WA isn't really a Vacation EP...so I've been wondering if we'll get one. Maybe just for the sake of Sim camping?

I think if they did do a vacation ep I would expect it to include other aspects to the game (eg. Seasons) i probably wouldn't pay £20 for ea just to add hotels and holidays. Especially when there already is a ep based on travelling

Re: there's still hope for a vacation expansion that doesn't
I like the idea of incorperating seasons. I just got WA, and though it's kept me entertained I feel like i've lost the free..ness that makes me love the game.
They could come out with the seasons type pack they HAVE TO make and include two different themed vacation spots with it. They could be an extension of the WA pack if you have it, or stand on their own if you dont. All i really want is a hawaiian themed vacation spot and ocean swimming, but I know people liked the mountain camping thing going on too.
With seasons it would make sense to have a summer vacation spot and a winter vacation spot, and therefore it could be combined into one pack.
Did that make sense to you?

Well.. You say its like a tomb raider game... I freakin' love those games!! But not World Adventures. I'm honestly going to say that WA was the biggest fail of an expansion pack in sims history, in my opinion.
Who wouldn't have prefered to have it more like bon voyage? Sunbathing on the beach and walking around Twikii Island which is seamless would have been perfect, with those OPTIONAL momento collecting things, but no, EA went and made it 'adventures'... just what 'every simmer wants' -___-
I highly doubt there will be another vacation/going away to a distant subhood type expansion pack again for ts3.

I highly doubt there will be another vacation/going away to a distant subhood type expansion pack again for ts3. World Adventures was a disappointment. I do agree that there should have been more vacation aspects to the EP as opposed to the adventuring aspects. That way you could've CHOSE to vacation or adventure. Anyways, I think that LN will add some more vacationy (not a word) aspects to WA because you could edit dance clubs and bars into the places. I know that I'll be trying to re-create the bar from Casablanca. But when it does come to the adventuring aspect, WA does succeed in giving the player lots to do. There is always an adventure to be had, so it seems.

Re: there's still hope for a vacation expansion that doesn't
i don't like the adventures in 'world adventures'. i don't have a long enough attention span to play with them all the way through. isn't there an end to all of them? do they just start over after you've reached the end of the long line of goals? i personally don't like playing that way. ambitions had a reason to make gameplay 'opportunity based'. and that was because of the jobs.
but with world adventures? i think people would've appreciated a vacation expansion instead. the addition of france, egypt, and china were generous.. but i could've lived without it. photography is good, but that was going to be added to the game at some point, anyway.
i haven't really tried the karate feature because i haven't had a sim advanced enough in that area to go around beating the shit out of some sim, lol.
but i think there is a possibility that they will do a vacation expansion. because fyi, they really haven't yet. 'adventures' was adding something new to the game. we can now explore and travel to 3 different countries. okay, that's great.
but what about going to the beach? camping? sure we have tents, but there's no proper campgrounds unless you want to plop the tent somewhere in the park and sleep there like you're homeless. i think that they could expand on the 'vacation' idea a whole lot more. to the point where it's enjoyable for everybody. i think it would entail not adding to the neighborhood, but instead maybe making subhoods. the loading screens won't be a problem, because you'd only be going there for vacation anyway. and the 'campground' hoods and whatnot would obviously be open and seamless. i just loved bon voyage for the sims 2. it seemed like they took out the best features, stuck in too much /new/ stuff, and made the theme entirely different.
but unless you guys have gotten confirmation that this was indeed our 'vacation' expansion, then there's no reason why we can't still hope for one.

I don't really like the opportunity based gameplay either. It feels as if instead of actually creating a new feature or game mechanic they just put a new lick of paint over the opportunity system and call it something new.
I felt like they did that World Adventures and Ambitions, although more so with world adventures.

with ambitions, it's not bad. the opportunities are job based and whatever. it does add something new. if you're bored, opportunities give you something to do. but i wish the same one wouldn't come up more than once. i'm so tired of the 'enter your dish' one.

What I personnaly hate are the gardener's oppertunity's. Who has enough patience to grow 5 great apples when your sim is only level two in the gardening skill!?
Oppertunities are... okay... but I find myself declining the majority.

Well, my prediction is that EA wants to get rid of all the previous expansion pack ideas and still have room for new ones. For example, have we confirmed that there are appartments in Late Night? And in Ambitions, there was that whole OFB aspect without the OFB... Appartments with out the Appartments? I'm not sure.

When it comes to OFB, I'm not too sure about that at all. I mean, EA can update an add on A LOT of business aspects to a business dedicated EP. For example, in TS2, a lot of my sims had level 10 businesses that were losing money which didn't make a lot of sense. And dance clubs were super hard to earn money with; the only money you really saw were from the perks. I see that the TS3's base game has a bit of business-like aspects (like owning buildings, etc, etc) and Ambitions just added on careers that required you to sell what you made/did. So I'm thinking that these little additions to the game are building up to a more advanced business EP in the future. But that's what I'm just hoping.

I don't think EA took any freedom away, because you don't have to explore...

Well for one, the tombs don't reset, so it's just a ~breeze~ getting through after another person's already gone through the tomb, another is that there's nothing to do other than adventure... you can take pictures and look for collectibles but that's it.

Ok... Pretty stupid EA didn't make sure the tombs would reset... BTW. Are Egypt, France and China new neighbourhoods or sub-hoods?

They're sub-hoods.
