Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
I didn't know if this belonged in this forum as it hasn't been updated on the main page of the site. However, I know that it is definitely worth a discussion on this forum. Source (Gamespot) Rod Humble, whom a lot of people blame the change of the charm in The Sims 3 for and also making The Sims 3 into an RPG for (that's what other people say anyway) has left his job with The Sims 3 and is going for Second Life. I have no idea what Second Life is, but I guess that doesn't matter. I don't know whether to be happy or not. I was never unhappy with the direction that Rod Humble (supposedly) was taking the game, I was more disappointed with the lack of quality in the expansion packs. I don't know if that will change. I also don't think The Sims 3 will change. Did The Sims 2 change in the last few EP's after the administration was changed? So I think everybody celebrating about this is getting way ahead of themselves. All I know is that Rod Humble worked on Seasons, and I want Seasons back in The Sims 3, so I'm not sure what to think here...

Re: Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
I'm kind of glad.. hopefully the people working on the game run out of ideas and look back at the Sims 2 and 1 for some old school charm. xD
Also second life is this MMO thing, similar to the Sims.

Re: Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
Second Life is basically an online The Sims, but a bit more adult orientated, and more custom content based. I think.

Oooohhh duh, Second Life. Yeah, I've heard of that. I guess I was just wanting to think Half Life or something, which I actually do have no knowledge over.
Anyway, now we can discuss him leaving!

Re: Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
I had no real opinion of him, but I do think and hope that the Sims franchise will benefit from a fresh perspective. If someone could pick out all the good parts of Sims 1, Sims 2, and Sims 3, and then add his or her own ideas, it could be really great.
My biggest hope -- which sounds a bit lame -- is that TS4 will lose the ugly Neanderthal-Claymation look of the Sims, with those hideous eyebrows and huge jaws.

Re: Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
I really like the RPG aspect of WA. I however dislike having either a constant stream of opportunities or none at all.
I hope whomever they bring in will really improve things. I agree that the pudding faces are horrible. They have these overly cut gross looking bodies now and chubby cheeks. Makes no sense in real life. I also agree about the expansion packs lacking. I like the apartments but they take so much work to edit yourself and rabit holes are a joke. I want my sims to be able to go to a resturaunt and sit and order drinks and a meal where I can see them (from a waiter) and I don't think that's asking for much.
The sims 3 really needs a change.

I don't remember a lot about his position, but I do remember he was involved quite a bit in promotion of TS3, and when the buildup of excitement was going on you heard his name around.

I wonder what he will do in Second Life... *scratches chin* He'll probably make that suck too. I'm kidding. :P But a fresh perspective on TS3 could be nice for sure.

I also think that a fresh perspective could keep the goals realistic for the next expansion pack. For example, we need more things to do with children and teens in my opinion. I feel that a fresh perspective is needed at this point in the franchise. We need someone to soak in the current problems with the game and someone who can point out which features would be appropriate for the next EP.

Re: Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
I used to play Second Life. The parties were fun, but boy was there some freaky people on there.
Anyways, hope this means that the Sims will get better and maybe SimCity won't be on the back burner anymore.

XD Oh the stories I could tell about the people I met in there... Maybe Rod will enjoy the strange ones. Scryer wrote: For example, we need more things to do with children and teens in my opinion. I utterly and completely agree. Late Night is nice but if offers NOTHING for the younger sims, sadly. And I almost always have sim kids and it's hard for me to find things for them to do.

Isn't Second Life extremely sex based or is that just what I've heard?

Re: Rod Humble leaves The Sims franchise for Second Life
I thought that Second Life (ignore my ignorance in the original post, I was thinking of something else) was just an game where you talk through your avatar... Like that IMVU site or whatever it's called. I didn't think it was an actual "game" like The Sims.

You do interact with the world through an avatar but it's not like Linden Labs (the creators) have made things for players to do. Second Life is purely created by the players pretty much so it's very open. No one place in the game is the same. There is a lot of creating in SL. People make clothes, hair, objects, houses, you name it in Second Life and put these things up for sale or use. There's always a lot of money changing hands. Even money for services like tipping DJs in the clubs, escorts in the more risque clubs, tipping hosts for events and you can have all kinds of events.

I am going to search this up, because I'm quite confused.
