Where did you get the mp3? Was it from p2p networks if so most don't work. I had to rerip a lot of my itunes songs back into mp3 to get it to work. Yes they will show up in the audio options after the game understands it. Me and mike and others just place shortcuts because we don't want to have the same file everywhere. Rerip the song back into 128kps and "unprotected" mp3 format not mp3 pro or anything. Make sure the id3 tag is correct because I think the game reads that to get the info from the song. Check the auto login option because I think that also helps to understand the song by downloading the info. But I'm not sure. I have 60 songs per each music station and made my own like the tv station and it works fine.
You can also try wav format because they work really really great just need to add the info tag like name, song, etc. Since wav is only 1 kind it will work. If not then something is wrong.

I got all my mp3s either through Mirc or from this site bemanistyle.com. They are all songs used in StepMania (a DDR simulator for PC). I have no clue how to rerip them or change id tags or anything.

Burn it to cd (cd player cda format) then rip the tracks back to the pc into mp3 format 128bits to make sure it's not protected or anything. Fill in the info artist, cd, song, etc for id3 tag and see if it work ^^
You can use nero, winamp, etc to do any of these of these steps. If you dont have a burner then no much to do really if the song is protected format. You can find a sound recorder but the sound will be very low quality. If that's the case then play the song and push record on the sound recorder then save it out as a mp3.

alright, don't worry about it then. I don't have a burner so I just won't worry about it. I'll try ripping a real CD to my hd to see if that works, will CDex be okay to rip it and put that information in?

I asked EA Games about the music shortcut thing and they responded with:
Quote: Hello, Thank you for contacting us here at Electronic Arts Technical Support, Im afraid there is no way to route shorcuts to the game becuse the mp3 files needs to be read directly from the game folders. If you have songs available in MP3 or WMA format, you can easily add them to your game. Open the My Documents folder. Open the EA Games folder. Open The Sims 2 folder. Open the Music folder. Each folder is named for when/where the music is played. Just drag and drop, or copy and paste, your music files to the appropriate folder. Now your music will be included in the playlist of songs for the game. Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase ( http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eate ... td_alp.php?)
I gave up adding shortcuts because going through all this trouble just for shortcuts just wasn't worth it.

Yea. Don't do shortcuts, they didn't work for me.
Just simply put the music file in the folders.
I went through and sorted all my music in the various
folders, pop, RnB, ect.
and DON'T FORGET to put your favorite songs in the
Create a Sim (cas) and Neighborhood folders!
HAVE FUN JAMMING WHILE YOU BUILD AND BUY!
I certainly do!

I didn't know we could put our songs in the Nieghborhood folders and listen to them in Cas, Build and Buy modes. That's kewl. I'll have to try it.

use this if you missed up
http://www.tomdownload.com/audio_mp3/mu ... editor.htm
I use that if I didn't rip with nero or winamp. Almost EVERY ripper lets you add id3 tags...

I'm having trouble installing custom content. I know how to install it. I've read all the threads concerning installing custom content. I don't know if I just keep over looking something, but it wont install.
Whenever I unzip the file, and I click on it, it pops up the Sims 2 Content Installer window. But it always says to "Double click a custom content package file to install the content." Everytime I double click on the file, it keeps showing that window.
I've tried installing numerous files, all with the same result.

What's the "file" extension of the file? Have you "tried" sims2installer?
I asked you this in the other post and still waiting on it Without that info we don't know anything..

the file is "The Sims 2 Content Installer"
Everytime I click on the file, the content installer program pops up saying to double click on a file. I double click, and it keeps poping up, saying the same thing.
Thanks for trying to figure this out. It's really frustrating me.
