Post Installation and loading time?
Hi all,

An interesting thought I had. How long do you think The Sims 2 will take to install and of course to load up the main game? I know it is a 2GB game but so is Pirates of the Carribean and that didn't take long too install. Still 2GB is alot for a game and The Sims Expansions did take a while to load so I just wondred if it would take perhaps an hour or something to install TS2? Just a thought plus I wonder how long it would take to load. 10 minutes or something? I hope not, I wanna dive into the game! :D

True thought my PC is a P4, 2GHZ and it takes along time to load, still I hope we can also manouver around TS2 easily without it being slow or anything, that would be cool.

Yeah I guess not but if so, hopefully we could tone down the graphics and it might work that way? I can run Pirates of the Carribean which is very demanding in graphics and it runs fast so you never know.

All depends on how good your computer is.

However I am reasonably certain that it will take less than one hour to install.

Loading time could be anywhere from 5 seconds to 10 minutes... all depends on how well maxis program it :)
Hopefully they will have learned from the mistakes they made in TS1 with resource management.

The sims1 would take about 6 seconds to load on my new computer but the same game with the same amout of objects would take just under 8 minutes on my pII 366Mhz

speed makes a big difference!

In The Sims 2, Maxis will completely change how the exp. and user created items work. In Sims 1, if you have thousands of items, the game will take a long time to load, but in Sims 2, the loading time shouldn't increase at all (according to Maxis).

that is very good!!

however those objects will have to be loaded *sometime*

so the time to get into a house in your neighbourhood will probably be longer or somethin!

Yeah that is indeed good, I never downloaded any user related content, instead I just had The Expansion Packs installed which slowed it down. Still I am indeed glad Maxis is doing something to help speed up the process, it was really slow before.

Here is a quote about the loading times:

"In addition, besides the official AddOns, too many downloads were a serious problem. The more you had downloaded, the longer the startup. That also will belong to the past as much as possible. Many downloads will probably still have an effect on the load times, however it will be much smaller than in the Sims 1."
