Yeah, maybe I exaggerated a little. I'm that type of guy, you know?
To be honest, I'm with EnVy on this. The swearing doesn't bother me that much, but you know, this is a Sims forum, a game targeted to mainly children. We don't get many really young people here and most of us are mature enough to handle it, but the announcement of The Sims 3 might send more people are way, a demographic that might include a lot of young children. I like to think that if you're mature enough to use swear words, you're mature enough to restrain from using it.

That would make sense if this was, say, a Crash Bandicoot forum, but I don't at all think the Sims series primary demographic is children like you say. It's a T-rated game and this is a forum where you agree to be at least 13 when you register... sure, it's not strictly enforced but there's only one 12-year-old regular around here I'm aware of. The forum particularly has never really catered to children... if it did, I doubt I'd still be here. (And children lurking on internet forums... well, it's safe to say any swearwords aren't going to be new to them.)

I suppose you're right. You know the forum better than I do. It's like Harry Potter, something aimed at children that has mass appeal. I'd still like to see the swearing rule enforced though, just because there are some people out there who don't like it. It's not going to hurt anyone if no one used it, and like I said before, if you're mature enough to use it, you're mature enough to refrain from using it. Anyway, there are much better words in the English language that can convey frustration.

I disagree with the "It's not going to hurt anyone if no one used it". Sure, we can refrain from swearing, and it wouldn't really rock the forum that much, but I think it would take the weight out of quite a few posts. I don't even swear that often, just when I think it adds something to what I'm saying more than any other words would (and it's not like I've got a limited vocabulary).

Surely the forum is aimed at anyone who plays The Sims, which is indeed a 12+ rated game - consequently the forum is aimed at anyone over 12. Obviously people will have a personal preference as to whether they can stand to read swearing, but I think that a forum shouldn't have to default to whatever the opinions of the most illiberal person are. I reckon there should generally be tolerance of strong language as long as it's justified in context.

i agree. Like i'm against posts that only have cusses in them and no actual point, but when people use them its generally not for that purpose.

And when it comes to "posts that only have cusses in them and no actual point", I'd say the issue there would be less the swearing and more the lack of a point (which is subjective and not something the word censor will solve).

I AGREE WITH EVERYONE.
I think that swearing, when it's not in context to someone, is not a big deal. We don't have small kids on here, and most 13-year-olds know what swear words are anyways. I think we need to give them a bit more credit. And anyways, one of our youngest members here is one of the biggest users of the 'f' word. *cough*erhama*cough*
Anyways, I think that the rules do need to be rewritten. They're ancient and we need to write them so that they're something we (the mods) will all agree on and stick to, because I don't think all the mods do at the moment.
I think once we rewrite them, it'll be easier to justify banning members.

Either way, 13 is underaged for doing most things. So you're young, get over it.
